The last putts have been made on the weekly ladies and men’s nights at the Morrisburg Golf Club, to end a good season for both.

The ladies got their final wrap-up tournament played on the last full day of summer on Saturday, a day that was certainly making way for autumn.

The rains arrived just as the ladies teed off at 11 a.m. and continued throughout play, but says ladies club captain Monique Patenaude . it did not deter the players. They all completed their 18 holes  and we finished our year with a wonderful turkey dinner.

Fifty golfers participated in Saturday’s final ladies scramble, and for the second consecutive year the team of Lori-Anne Davies, Shannon Casselman and Judy Laurin (minus Stephenie Cochrane this year) won the “bragging trophy”. This year they earned the right to “brag” with a two under par 70.

Patenaude thanked the day’s sponsors who were Jim Annable/Chevron Construction and Dave Cassell/Strader Motor Sales.

“We have to thank all of our ladies night sponsors who were so very generous,” says Patenaude. “And also, many thanks to all the players who made our ladies nights so successful.”

This year’s ladies nights averaged 48 participants.  Winner of a free membership for 2014 was Gisele Hooles and the ZMAX pull cart was won by Susan Whyte.

The final ladies evening play was completed last Wednesday, September 18 with 48 golfers participating. The highlight of the evening was the “Price is Right” game with Bobette Barker (aka Monique Patenaude). 

The men held their men’s night finale tournament on Saturday, September 14 with 64 golfers participating.

Blake Barry was the 18-hole A low gross winner with a 75, Larry Cooper won B flight with an 85 (retro) and Garry O’Neill won C flight with a 91.  Net winners were Lee Beaupre in A flight, Allan Patterson in B flight and Pietre Ozinga in C flight.

Winners selected their prizes from a final prize table valued at $3,500.

Picking up prizes for the closest to the pin shots on the par threes were Ron Lapier #2 and #8, Blake Barry #5, Allan Patterson #11, Donald Black #14 and Dave McClenaghan #17. 

In addition a draw was made for a Morrisburg Golf Club 2014 membership and that was won by Dave McClenaghan.

Also wrapping up was the season-long men’s night team event. Participants paid an entry at the start of the season and those participants were then divided into four teams (nine players per team) whose scores were tracked each week.

At the end of the final men’s night on September 12, two teams were tied, so the back nine of the final Saturday, September 14 tournament was put to use to end the deadlock. That didn’t do the trick and so a rep from each team was selected to putt on behalf of their team.

Representing their teams were Blake Barry and Lee Beaupre, upon whose shoulders was place the weight of the entire summer golfing season. Both lined up at the front of the ninth green to place their putt closest to the hole. Barry came to within 12 inches and Beaupre got to within six for the win.

The winning team consisted of Beaupre, Bryan Cochrane, Larry Gallinger, Barry Henderson, Andy Patenaude, Scott Robinson, Derek Thain, Eric Wemerman and Danny Youmelle.

Finishing second were Wally Baker, Blake Barry, Donnie Mabo, Mick Mabo, Dave McClenaghan, Pieter Ozinga, Bruce St. John, Jim Tuttle and Bob Youmelle.

Club captain Andy Patenaude, said the 2013 men’s nights were extremely successful, and he thanked the many evening sponsors.

It wasn’t a great start for the Morrisburg Junior B Lions who opened their 2013/14 season on the weekend with a pair of losses to the Alexandria Glens and the Winchester Hawks.

The Lions were on the road Friday night to Alexandria where they were handed a 5-3 loss by the Glens, and then back home on Morrisburg ice Saturday night, where they were ousted by the visiting Hawks 7-3.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon Chilton got his debut with the Lions in Alexandria where he gave up five goals on 57 shots. He was back in net on Saturday night against the Hawks, this time giving up seven goals on 36 shots.

“With 11 first year players playing their first game, we had a lot of excitement and a lot of nerves,” says Lions GM, Kevin Casselman. “The game was going well until well into the third period when a five-minute cross checking penalty set them up for two power-play goals.”

Friday night in Alexandria, the Glens went up 1-0 in the first period, but the Lions rallied early in the second with counters from Christian Leger (4:07 from Michael Paquette and Chris Person) and Eric Evans (8:43 from Dallas Blacksmith and Brandon Mullin).

Before the period had ended however, the Glens recovered with two of their own to carry a 3-2 advantage into the third.

David Sirois pushed the Glens lead to two goals at 7:47 of the third and Leo MacLean made it 5-2 at 11:09. Both goals were scored on the Glens power play.

Brandon Mullin scored his first goal of the season at 15:16 of the third period but that was it.

The Glens held on for the 5-3 win.

The Lions kicked off their home season, Saturday night in Morrisburg. 

First to the ice were the new owners Dale Lewis, Rick Gilmer, Gary Brownlee and Kevin Casselman. They were joined by South Dundas Mayor Steven Byvelds, and team captains Taylor Eamon of the Lions and Josh Stubbings of the Hawks for the official puck drop to kick off the 2013/14 hockey season.

The fans were treated to a good first period of hockey which ended in a 1-1 tie.

Michael Paquette counted the first home ice goal of the season at 15:23 of the first period with help from Eric Evans and Brandon Mullin.

The Lions lead lasted just over a minute when Kyle McDonald struck for the Hawks to even it.

Less than one minute into the second period, Mullin slipped the Lions second goal past Hawks goaltender Brandon Lowrey, but again it didn’t last long.

The Hawks rushed back for three unanswered counters for a 4-2 advantage, before the Lions got them stopped with an Eric Evans goal (17:24 from Paquette and Taylor Eamon).

Thirty-four seconds later Josh Stubbings counted, to give the Hawks a 5-3 advantage heading into the third period.

The Hawks took charge of the third period with two unanswered goals for the 7-3 win.

Casselman says team management was pleased with the response to the new Saturday night home game time slot. “We pooled some of the crowd for feed back and all was very positive.”

“Our young group will be exciting to watch as we develop. They are working hard and with that work ethic, they can only further improve and develop as a team.”

The Lions have just one game coming up this weekend. That is this Sunday, September 22 when the Char-Lan Rebels are in town for a 2:30 p.m. start.

The Morrisburg Junior B Lions are excited to announce the change of their historical Friday night 8:30 p.m. home games to Saturday nights at 7:30 and the change gets rolling this weekend.

The Lions will open their 2013-14 season in Alexandria, this Friday night, September 13, and will be on their home ice this Saturday night, September 14, against the Winchester Hawks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

We are really excited about the Saturday night home games, says general manager Kevin Casselman. “We are hoping to put a lot more people in the rink, and we think this night and earlier time slot will attract more children and families.”

“First and foremost, we want to get more children out and the 8:30 p.m. Friday night time slot was just too late. We are hoping that by getting more kids out to see our games, the spin off will be to get more youth involved in hockey.”

Casselman says the move will also be beneficial the players who are attending university/college with scheduled Friday night classes. “It was just becoming more and more difficult with so many players and their conflicting Friday night school schedules.”

According to Casselman, this year’s Lions schedule will include 10 Saturday night home games and nine Sunday afternoon home games.

“Throughout the upcoming season, we have only four Friday night games, so all of the teams are on the same page. Even Winchester has moved some of their Friday night games.”

Set up as a one year trial, the change called for the cooperation of the South Dundas Minor Hockey Association who had the Saturday night time slot.

“Apparently, they have had trouble getting their midgets out for home games on Saturday nights, as many are working. So it’s a win-win situation for everyone.”

Casselman also suspects the Friday night time slot also wasn’t an attractive time for some older Lions’ fans.

“I know myself that when you get home from work on Friday night, have dinner and hit the couch, it is tough to get up and get going again for an 8:30 p.m. hockey game.”

“We are really hoping that this change will accommodate more fans of all ages, and we are looking forward to seeing some new faces in the arena.”

For the home opener, this Saturday night, the Lions will be hosting their longtime Winchester Hawks rivals. The teams will be on the ice at 7 p.m. and game time is 7:30 p.m. In addition to the much anticipated hockey action, the Clarkson University pep band will be in attendance. “There will be lots of noise and lots of excitement and action for everyone,” says Casselman.

Immediately following the game, fans are invited to join the Lions, their parents and team management at the Morrisburg Golf Club, for player introductions.

Some tough decisions have been made, some new recruits have joined the squad and some familiar faces are back, as the Morrisburg Junior B Lions prepare to open their 2013-14 season this Friday night in Alexandria, followed by their home opener Saturday night on Morrisburg ice, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Signed to goal this year are 19-year-old Brandon Chilton from Moose Factory, Ontario, and 18-year-old John Gilmer from Morrisburg.

Chilton, who is attending Algonquin College caught the eye of the Morrisburg coaches during Prospects Camp. In 2011, he played in the Timmins Major AAA Midget program and in 2012, he was with the Kanata Stallion Jr. A. 

Gilmer is a home grown product. He played last year with CHI academy in Rockland Major AAA Midget. 

Last week was extremely busy for the Lions, both on and off the ice, as several pre-season deals were completed.

Among them, the Lions traded the playing rights of veteran forward Michel Lefevbre to the Alexandria Glens for a 16-year-old card for the 2014-15 season, plus the playing right to Chris Pearson and player development fees.

Defenceman, Chris Pearson, 6’1’ is a right-handed defenceman assigned from the Carleton Place Jr. A Canadians. 

Also on September 5, the Prescott Flyers (formerly the South Grenville Rangers) traded Pascal Dirocco to the Lions for future considerations. One day earlier, the Lions traded Zach Seguin to the Akwesasne Wolves for future considerations.

On August 30, the Metcalfe Jets traded the playing rights for Peter Ketcheson to the Morrisburg Lions for a PDF and a 16 year old card for next year.

The Lions defence has really shaped up. Along with the addition of Pearson, veteran Lion Drew Veenstra (Ingleside) has signed an overage card. 

“Drew will be our anchor on the back end,” says Casselman. “After Drew, we have a pretty young defensive squad, so we are looking to him to be a leader.”

The Lions are excited to welcome defenceman Andrew Jarvis, a product of the South Dundas Minor system. The property of the Brockville Braves, “AJ is signed with the Lions and affiliated with the Braves. This is going to be a real development year for AJ. He had an outstanding camp with the Braves, and they want him to play a year with us.”

Jarvis will skate weekly with the Braves and will practise and play with the Lions. His affiliation allows him to play 10 games with the Braves.

“We are very excited to have AJ. He is very talented and a smart hockey player. It’s only for one year, but if we can help in his development, that is great,” says Casselman.

Also on the blueline is Curtis Evans, 6’3” twin brother of forward Eric Evans. Curtis played last year with the Seaway Valley AA Midgets.

Returning to the Lions forward lineup as an overage player is Christian Leger who has played the last three seasons in the CCHL with the Ottawa Jr. A Senators and Gloucester Rangers. Fans will remember Christian for the outstanding rookie season he had with the Lions.

Other local players signed with the Lions are forwards Eric Evans of Long Sault, Isaac Brownlee of Osnabruck Centre, Brandon Mullin of Iroquois, Kyle Adams of Morrisburg and veteran Clark Veenstra.

Evans who made the Lions team last year, was sent back to finish his midget season and now returns after a good midget year.

Isaac Brownlee is a 6’3” right winger. Last year, he was a member of the Eastern Ontario Conras AA midget team and was affiliated with the Lions.

“Brandon Mullin brings a huge offensive skill and talent to the team. Brandon has one mission and that is to score goals…and he knows how to do it.” An 18-year-old, Brandon played midget hockey in the South Dundas Minor Hockey Association last year.

Kyle Adams, “has had an outstanding camp. Kyle has really impressed the coaches. He has really been working hard.” A 20-year-old, Kyle is attending Algonquin College.

Casselman says the Lions have a good mix of size and speed and he invites the community to come out and support the team. Along with the local players, there are some really talented area players that will provide some great action.

On the blue line, Casselman says to watch for Zach Belaire (Ottawa Triple A Senators last year), Dan Fyckes (Norwood, NewYork) and Pascal Dirocco (acquired in a trade with Prescott Flyers). 

Up front are Peter Ketchson (came to the Lions on loan late last year from the Metcalfe Jets), Alex Kidd (6’1” winger who played for Ottawa AA Major Midget Sting last year), Robert Scott (Potsdam, NewYork), Tyler Young ( Massena, New York), Dallas Blacksmith (6’4” winger with Ottawa Jr. B Canadians last year), veteran Lion Mike Paquette (Pierrefonds, Quebec) and Taylor Eamon (came to the Lions late last year in a trade with the Casselman Vikings).

Interestingly, the American players came to the Lions through the encouragement and recommendation of former Lion Richie Boprey, a very talented and crucial member of the Lions championship squads in the late 1970s.

A $10 gift certificate exchange was the highlight of last Wednesday, September 4, ladies night. Forty-four golfers were aiming for closest to the hole shots to pick up a gift certificate, but only one was successful.

That was Vicki Boivin with the closest to the hole shot made on the par three fifth hole.  There were no winners on either of the course’s other two par threes, number 2 and number 8. 

The longest putt of the ladies night on the ninth green was made by Laurie Dillabough at just over 10 feet.

Tonight (Wednesday, September 11), Phil Rankin will be dropping in at the ladies night to give a short-game clinic and to talk about Nancy Lopez golf/clubs.

Men’s night on Thursday, September 5, was sponsored by Canadian Tire in Morrisburg. 

Closest to the pin winners were Larry Gallinger on #2 and Lindsay Weegar on #8.

Bob Mann won for the low gross in A flight with a 38 (retro) and Doug McNairn was the low shooter of the evening with a 36, which was good for the low gross prize in B flight. In C flight, Bob Barclay claimed the win with a 44.

Net winners were Chuck Irvine in A flight, Greg Millard in B and Barry Henderson in C.

Coming up this Saturday, September 14 is the Morrisburg Golf Club’s Men’s closing day event scheduled for a shotgun start at 10 a.m. 

The course will be closed for most of the day.

With 11 goaltenders, 12 defenceman and 26 forwards in camp, Morrisburg Junior B Lions general manager Kevin Casselman, says the coaching staff has some tough decisions ahead.

The Lions opened their 2013 training camp in Spencerville, two weeks ago, on Sunday, August 18.

Their training camp schedule runs until this Sunday, September 8 and when it is ended they will have been on the ice 11 times, seven of them in pre-season games.

“We’ve had a great turn out with approximately 50 players,” says Casselman. “With all of the late season moves we made last year, it really left us with just eight veterans returning to camp, and another seven players attending who finished the season with us as late arrivals or affiliates. That puts our returning number at approximately 15 players.”

Also returning this year, for his second season is head coach Dan Frawley. New to the bench are associate coach Andrew Scott and assistant coach Mark Evans.

“We have been very pleased with the quality of the camp,” says Casselman. “The coaches were very busy in the recruitment stages, and now have some very difficult decision to be made within the next week.”

Casselman says Lions fans will certainly be seeing some added size and speed in the lineup this year.

Overagers in camp include Drew Veenstra and Michel Lefevbre, both of whom were with the Lions last season. (Lefevbre did get a late season release for playoff purposes, but remained Lions property.)

Riley Nicolaasen who was signed late last year is looking for a roster position as is Brandon Chaffe who was acquired in a trade with the Westport Rideaus.

A very welcome return as an overager is former Lion Christian Leger who now has three seasons of Junior A experience under his skates having played with both Ottawa and Gloucester.

Veteran goaltender Ryan Cooper is in camp along with John Gilmer who was affiliated to the Lions last season while playing AAA Major Midget with the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland.

Goaltender Brandon Chilton from Moose Factory, Ontario has ‘looked good in camp’ along with Robert Weidman from Quebec and locals Zach Frawley (South Dundas Minor Hockey), Ryan Troutman, Liam O’Donahue and Eric Mantha.

Looking to reclaim their spots on the blueline are Sam Hodgson and Drew Veenstra.

Ty Hodgson from Morrisburg, who started last season with the Lions, before moving to play AAA with the Upper Canada Major Midget Cyclones is also on the ice.

New to the camp are Dan Fyckes (6’ 2” from Norwood, New York), Zach Belaire, 6’2” right-hander (played last year with AAA Major Midget Ottawa Sens), Evan Mantha (16-year-old Cornwall Colts draft pick) and local prospect Kristian Palmer (6’4”).

From Morrisburg comes 16-year-old Andrew Jarvis. Protected by the Brockville Braves, Jarvis has been returned from the Braves ‘for a season of development.’ A smooth skater, ‘Andrew brings a heads-up style of play’.

Looking for spots up front are returning players Clark Veenstra, Taylor Eamon, Nicholas Pilon, Michael Paquette, Ryan Dunbar and Zach Seguin.

Local player, Shane Woolsey (Iroquois area) is looking good. A 16-year-old, Woolsey was protected by the Kemptville 73s Jr. A and has been returned to the Lions for development.

The Lions are also looking at two Americans, Tyler Young from Massena and Robbie Scott from Potsdam.

Also still in camp are Isaac Brownlee and Peter Ketcheson who gained experience last year, Alex Kidd of Ottawa, Patrick Picard from Hearst, Ontario, Harry Wyss of Russell, Brian Landry of Cornwall, Kyle Adams of Morrisburg and Brandon Mullin.

The Junior B Hockey season is now just one week away from opening.

The Lions will kick off their schedule on the road, when they take on the Alexandria Glens in their barn on Friday, September 13 at 8 p.m.

For their home opener, the Lions will host the Winchester Hawks on Saturday, September 14. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Lions coaching staff will be looking at the players in pre-season game tonight (Wednesday) September 4 against the Brockville Tikis at the Brockville Memorial Centre, and again this Saturday, September 7 at the Benson Center in Cornwall, when they host the Stittsville Royals at 3 p.m.

Ladies nights at the Morrisburg Golf Club are winding down for another season with the final just two weeks away on the 18th.

The gals closed out the month of August with a two, three or four-person best ball (the best score on a hole used as the team score). Winning in the two-person category was the team of Judy Laurin and Lori Anne Davies with a 43. Adding a third golfer, the score dropped to a 38, with the winning team being Dianne Gallinger, Carolyn Weegar and Crystal Belanger. Winning in the four person team category were Betty Lou Casselman, Alice McNairn, Elsie Guindon and Lydia Eamon with a 44.

The evening was sponsored by Evonic Oil Additives Canada Inc. Coming up tonight, Wednesday, September 4, there is no sponsor, but each golfer is asked to bring a $10 gift certificate in a brown paper bag which will be used in a prize/gift exchange.

The September 11 Ladies Evening will be visited by CPGA pro Phil Rankin who will present a short game clinic after dinner. Participants are being asked to sign up.

As well the sign-up sheet for the Final Ladies Scramble on Saturday, September 21 has been posted. The cost for the event is $20 and participants can make up their team to play for the most valuable “bragging trophy”.

Last Thursday night, the men’s evening was sponsored by Giant Tiger.

Low shooters were Bob Mann, with a 36 in A flight (retro), Doug McNairn with a 36 in B flight and Terry Laurin with a 40 (retro) in C flight. Net winners were Lindsay Weegar A, Larry Gallinger B, and Ken Rundle C.

Keith Robinson won for closest to the pin on the par three 11th, and Al Graham had the closest on the 14th.

The final Seniors event is set for Sunday, September 15. The day will include golf and a roast beef dinner. The cost is $14 and registrations can be made by contacting Linda Henderson.

 The rain held off and Ottawa Hylands golfer Paul Nooyen held on to win his third consecutive Cedar Glen Men’s Open Championship here Monday.

Nooyen posted a two-over-par 72 for a one stroke win over the Glen’s Kurtis Barkley with a 73.

Nooyen won the Open the last two years, both with scores of 74.

Sunday’s round played from the white tees saw him double bogey the par three sixth hole and the par three 12th.

He turned the corner with a one over par 35, and birdied two of the last three holes on the back nine  (16 & 18) for a one over 37 and his 72 total.

The next low scores in the 29-player A flight category were 76s carded by Craig Nooyen (public player), Brad Mayhew of Nationview, Lance LePage of Upper Canada and Peter Gilder of the Brockville Country Club.

Rick Barkley of Cedar Glen posted a 78, while Dave Saunders of the Brockville C.C., Lonnie McIntosh of Cedar Glen and Mike Guy tied with 79s.

Guy’s 79 gave him the A flight low net with a 68.

Paul McCasliln of Iroquois finished alone with an 80, while Chawn Lapier (Iroq),  Steve McIntosh  and Lyle Schell of Cedar Glen and Lyndsay Weegar of Morrisburg all carded 81s.

Also defending his title was B flight champion Barry Casselman.

A very solid 78, allowed Casselman (Cedar Glen) to walk away from the rest of the B field, his closest competition coming from  Cedar Glen golfers Rick Morrow, Billy DeJong and Kenny Mills all shooting 83s.

Mills’ 83 gave him a 66 net for the B flight net win.

Next up in B flight, was Cedar Glen’s Steve Plummer with an 84. Bill Hogoboam of Sandy Row and Chris Phifer of Cedar Glen tied with 85s.

Thirty area golfers were in the hunt for B flight prizes.

It was another successful defense of his title in C flight, as Mike Berrube of Nationview posted a 100 to collect his second  consecutive championship. 

Also shooting a 100, which gave him the C flight low net with a 75, was Cedar Glen’s Dennis Casselman.

Due to the major thunder/rain storm that arrived just shortly after the final golfers checked in at the clubhouse, a playoff was not possible to break the 100 tie.

The next low shooter in C flight was Brian Erwin of Cedar Glen with a 103. 

Sixty-four golfers competed in the 39th annual Cedar Glen Open. All categories this year played from the white tees that measure just under 6,000 yards.

The Cedar Glen Men’s Valley League team got a huge boost from their A flight players, in particular Kurtis Barkley who shot a one under par 71 at the Sandy Row Golf Course here Saturday, but in the end it wasn’t enough for the defending 2012 team champs.

The 14-player Summer Heights team was the best for the day in the competition with a 1,237 stroke total to second place Cedar Glen’s 1,245 strokes.

The Morrisburg Golf Club team finished third with 1,262 shots, Iroquois was fourth with 1,273 and the hosting Sandy Row team posted 1,284 shots.

The top shooter for the Summer Heights champs was 14-year-old, Ty Celone (zero handicapper) who posted an even par 72 playing in the junior position.

The top A flight shooter for the Summer Heights team was Bob Johnson with a 78. Marcel Marion and Lew Stanley added 83s and Gilles Marion had a 90.

Bruce Smith led the B flight charge with an 87 followed by Marc Leroux at 88 and Bobby Deschamps and Greg Plumadore tied with 91s.

Yvon Lemire was strong in C flight with a 92, Gerry Menard and Dan Mano posted 94s and Gerry Sabourin shot a 104.

Senior player, Dan Julien carded a 90.

For his one under par 71, Kurtis Barkley was presented the Millard Trophy.

The Sports Unlimited Trophy for the low gross in B flight was won by Gary Breyer of Morrisburg with an 82, and Kevin Barkley of Sandy Row shot an 85, to win the Summer Heights Fun Night trophy for low gross in C flight.

Sandy Row golfers made a clean sweep of the individual net flight trophies.

Brad Mayhew won the A low net Julien Supply Trophy, (shooting a 75 for a 67 net), Roger Frances won the Cedar Glen B net trophy (89-69 net) and Gord Kelso won the Hugh Hutchison C flight net trophy (95-70 net).

Kelso won the net award on retrogression over Bob Youmelle of Morrisburg who shot a 90 for a 70 net.

Celone was presented the Highlands trophy for low junior with his even par 72, and J.P. St. Pierre of Cedar Glen won the Tom and Jean Parker Trophy for low senior with a 79.

The Men’s Valley League competition also includes play in three non-team categories. Net winners here were Sean Boulerice of Morrisburg in the VIP spot, Bruce Cowell of Sandy Row in the President spot and Rick MacKenzie of Iroquois in the Club Captain category.

The Cedar Glen team received a solid performance from their A flight players. Adding to Kurtis Barkley’s 71 were Dave Bird with a 76, Rick Barkley with a 79 and Mark Alexander with an 85.

Barry Casselman led the Cedar Glen B flight with an 83, Larry Harper posted an 87, Terry Barkley an 89 and Steve Plummer a 96.

Larry Barlow was the Glen’s low C flight shooter with a 98, Steve Wells shot 100, Michael Hunt 102 and Peter Van Kessel a 110. 

Senior, J.P. St. Pierre added a 79 and junior, Liam Morrow a 90.

The top shooter for Morrisburg was  Lindsay Weegar in A flight with an 80. Gary Breyer had an 82 in B flight and Bob Youmelle was the low in C flight with a 90.

Les Gilmour led Iroquois’ A flight with a 78. Kent McDermid led B flight with an 86 and Les Craig led C flight with a 94. Rick MacKenzie’s 92 also counted in the Iroquois C flight when a regular player was forced to pull out due to illness.

Top shooters for Sandy Row were Brad Mayhew 75 in A flight, Roger Francis 89 in B flight and Kevin Barkley 85 in C flight.

The Summer Heights team collected the W.D. MacLennan Team trophy for the win. The Sandy Row team had low team net with 1,051. Morrisburg was next with 1,056.

The men’s Valley League competition was played at Sandy Row Golf Course on Saturday, with our team finishing third behind the winners Summer Heights and second place Cedar Glen. Point totals were close with Summer Heights winning with 1,237, Cedar Glen second with 1,245 and Morrisburg third with  1,262.

Congratulations to Gary Breyer who won B flight low gross with an 82, and Sean Boulerice who had the low net for the VIP position shooting a 94 for a 76 net.

In ladies night action, last Wednesday, August 21, the game was a  scramble with either teams of three or four players. Making it a little more interesting was the rule that the gals couldn’t use their drivers.

With a score of 38 (by retrogression), the winning three players team consisted of Shannon Casselman, Lori Anne Davies and Judy Laurin.

The evening was sponsored by Shannon’s Flower Station at the Ingleside Home Hardware.

In the four player team category, with a score of 36, was the team of Diane Gallinger, Shelley Broad, Colleen Smith and Crystal Belanger.

The three person team with the least putts (12) consisted of Bonnie VanMoorsel, Heather Black and Leanne McCooeye, while the  four person team with the least putts (13) included Sandra O’Neil, Debbie Butzner, Nancy Cassell and Peggy Wilson.

Coming up this week, the Ladies night sponsor is Evonik.

Men’s night on Thursday was sponsored by Bill Dillabough/Pizza Hutt, Cornwall. 

The format was a scramble with the low score of 27 posted by the team of Sam Laurin, Kirk Barkley, Lance LePage and Scott Hodgson.

Closest to the pin shooters were Korey Casselman on #5 and Liam Mills on #8.
