Atom C championship series tied

MORRISBURG – After taking a four point series lead, the South Dundas Lions C1 team lost their next two games against the Smiths Falls Bears in the Atom C championship series.

Smiths Falls doubled South Dundas 2-1 in game three of the series in Smiths Falls on March 10th.

The Lions needed a tie or a win to seal the championship on March 11th in Morrisburg. The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Mason Roderick put the Lions back in the game, scoring an unassisted goal with 4:58 remaining in the first period. Roderick tied the game four minutes into the second period, but a later period goal by the Bears put Smiths Falls back into the lead 3-2 where it remained for a win.

The teams are tied at four points each in the first-to-five-point championship series. With the suspension of all hockey activities by Hockey Canada in response to COVID-19, the fate of the championship is unresolved.

South Dundas Minor Hockey Association president Joyce Latulippe told The Leader that likely both teams will be crowned co-champions but that won’t be decided any time soon.
