IROQUOIS – When the Iroquois Golf Club held its 60th anniversary, it was decided to raise money for the Seaway District High School athletics program. The course was the site of the last major athletics fundraiser by Seaway in 2016.

The resulting day raised $1,061 for the program. Included in the fundraising was a raffle of a golf bag and clubs, donated by Rob Delegarde, and several fun game fundraisers.

Seaway Golf, which operates the course, donated $3 for each golf club rented that day.

“We are all very grateful for this support of the athletics program,” said SDHS athletics coordinator Trevor Thompson.

Fundraising for athletics is a challenge for all schools. Thompson said that the biggest expense for the athletics programs is bus transportation to meets and games, and equipment renewal.

“The SDG Athletics Association area is huge,” he said. “All the rural schools face these challenges.”
