BELLEVILLE – South Dundas athlete Olivia Mudde won a pair of medals, one gold, one silver, at the East Regional track and field championships in Belleville May 30-31st.
Mudde, who is in Grade 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School in Cornwall, won gold in midget girls triple jump event with her 10.23 metre jump. Going into the meet, she was ranked ninth in the event.
“I really wanted to do well and just try to get a new personal best,” Mudde told The Leader. She did set a new personal best in the first place finish. “I was like ‘wow, I did it’.”
She followed up with a 4.79 metre jump in the midget girls long jump event, earning her second place overall and a silver medal. At EOSSAA she finished second in the event, and was ranked second going into East Regionals.
Looking forward to OFSAA this week, Mudde said she hopes to set another personal best in her events, and to take in being at the University of Guelph track and field facility in Guelph.
“I am just happy to be there competing,” she said.
In addition to track and field, Mudde plays baseball for the Williamsburg Pioneers junior team, and hockey with the Cornwall Typhoons. At St. Joe’s she competed in hockey, rugby, volleyball, and badminton for the Panthers in the 2018-19 school year.
Mudde will compete in the OFSAA provincial track and field championships June 6-8th.
