MORRISBURG – Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the region. The agency says that conditions are favourable for dangerous thunderstorms that may produce damaging winds, large hail and torrential rain.
Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and quickly intensify, moving west to east. The storm is moving through the region at a speed of 50 kilometres per hour, with wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour possible. Environment Canada says there is a risk of a brief tornado. The storm is expected to move into Quebec after 3 p.m.
The agency says severe thunderstorms can produce tornados, while heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads.
