Henderson and Jordan advance to OFSAA East Regionals

KINGSTON – Two athletes from Seaway District High School earned a spot at the East Regional track and field championships last week. Anna Henderson and Erika Jordan are part of a nine-athlete team who competed May 24-25 at the EOSSAA track and field championships held in Kingston.

Jordan will compete at the upcoming championship in two events, the 1500 metre steeplechase, and the 1500 metre race. She won the steeplechase event in 5:24.91 minutes, 13 seconds ahead of second place and four seconds shy of breaking the course record at the Invista Centre. She also finished in fourth place in the 1500 metre race with a time of 5:09.66 minutes, 18 seconds behind first place Anna Workman from KCVI.

Henderson took home first place in the junior girls javelin event with her 31.14 metre throw. She was a 0.80 metres ahead of second place. Henderson finished in fourth place in the junior girls discus event with her 25.18 metre throw, six metres behind first place.

Lilly Lewis competed in three events at EOSSAA, finishing in seventh place in the midget girls 300 metre hurdles, 12th in the midget girls 400 metre dash, and 19th in preliminaries in the midget girls 200 metre dash. Alex Stewart finished the boys 2000 metre steeplechase in 16th place, and was 13th in the junior boys 1500 metre dash.

In field events, Danika Nielson competed in three events, finishing 11th in the midget girls high jump, 13th in the midget girls long jump and 14th in the midget girls triple jump. The junior girls shot put event saw Henderson finish in 11th place for the day.

Erin Gibbons finished 14th place overall in the midget girls javelin. Trystyn Hummel was seventh in the senior girls discus, Brianna O’Neil 18th. Hummel and O’Neil had back-to-back finishes in the senior girls javelin, with Hummel being in 11th place, O’Neil 12th. O’Neil finished 12th in the senior girls shot put event as well.

Jordan and Henderson will compete at the OFSAA East Regional track and field championships May 31-June 1st in Kingston.
