Livestock perish in fire

SOUTH DUNDAS – Two horses and 20 chickens perished in a barn fire at 13529 Nudell Bush Road Monday, January 2.

The first of several calls about the fire came in at 6:26 p.m. Fire crews arrived on scene at 6:46 p.m.

Cameron Morehouse, director South Dundas Fire and Emergency Services, said the barn was a complete loss and the cause will remain undetermined.

All firefighters from all three SDFES stations were called to the scene.

Morehouse said that it is common practice for all three stations to respond to a structure fire.

He said that crews fought the fire from outside the building and were able to contain it.

The barn was about 30 yards from the house, and Morehouse said the house which, was inhabited, was never in danger.

He estimates damages at $150,000.
