Donald MacIntyre

A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Clayton Casselman passed away suddenly at home on Friday, August 24, 2013.  He was 84.

Clayton was born in Williamsburg Township, on March 12, 1929, to his parents Mahlon and Hilda Casselman.  

During his lifetime, Clayton worked at several jobs including farming, merchant marine and at the Johnstown elevators. 

Clayton enjoyed having a beer, hunting, playing solitaire and visiting with family and friends.  

Clayton is survived by his children Lorne (Roseanne) Howden of Cortland, Gwen (Gary) Armstrong of Langton, Tom Casselman of Tillsonburg, Debbie (John) Thachuk of R.R.#3 Williamsburg and David Casselman of Tillsonburg. 

He leaves his siblings Gwen Hess of Winchester Springs, Shirley Empey of R.R.#1 Iroquois and Clare (Judy) Casselman of Morrisburg.  

Clayton will be fondly remembered by 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, and by his nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Emily “Betty”, his daughters Trudy Casselman and Darlene Berends, his sister Eleanor Swerdfeger and his brothers Keith “Mick”, Lloyd and Paul Casselman.  

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 28th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Janet Evans officiating.   Interment followed at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg. 

Pallbearers were Johnny Thachuk Jr., Reg Scrivener, Chris Casselman, Tim Casselman, Tom Casselman and Steve Schwerdtfeger.

A lifetime resident of the area, Clare Hollister of Winchester, passed away peacefully in the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Friday, July 18, 2014.  He was 83.

Clare was born in Williamsburg Township on December 9, 1930, the fourth of six children born to his parents Cory and Florence Hollister (nee O’Brien).  

Clare worked hard all his life.  He became a proud and prominent cheesemaker at Upper Canada Village where he worked for 28 years.  In addition to being a cheesemaker, he owned a farm south of Winchester for many years and retired in Winchester.

He enjoyed going to Tim Hortons, The Country Kitchen and many other restaurants around the countryside.   He knew many, many people, and who all of their relations were. 

Clare often talked about history, politics, and the news of the day to anyone he met during his travels.  

He was a kind-hearted man and he loved helping people, regardless of their station in life.  He possessed a good sense of humour, and he loved to have fun.  

Clare is survived by his siblings Merle (Marion) of Ingleside and Inez (Wallace) Byers of Winchester, and his dear friend Mahlon Garlough.  

He was predeceased by his sister Eileen Arbuthnot and his brothers Edward and Howard Hollister.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews.  

A private family graveside interment service was held at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville, on Monday, July 21, 2014, with Rev. John Martin officiating. 

Pallbearers were Gary Hollister, Calvin Hollister, Robbie Byers and Michael Kerkhof.  Honorary pallbearer was Andrew Hutchinson. 

Donations to Winchester Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

A lifetime resident of the area, Marvin Keeler passed away at the Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, following a brief illness. He was 69.

Marvin was born in Matilda Township on June 5, 1943, to his parents Garnet and Effie Keeler (nee Robinson). 

As a teenager he began working for a local farmer but his main interest was doing mechanical work so he got a job working at Gib Strader’s junk yard when he was only 15 years old. 

On July 2, 1966, he married Connie Howe and together they had one son Jeff.   Marvin worked for Gib Strader for a number of years before going to work on the big boat engines at Prescott Machine and Welding. 

When he was laid off in 1981, he, Connie and Jeff moved to Alberta where he worked on the heavy equipment in the oil fields.  

The family returned to the Iroquois area in 1989. 

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, doing woodwork and repairing lawn mowers.  He loved the outdoors and his small farm animals which are now being taken care of by his grandson Rylee who shares his grandfather’s love for animals.  

Marvin will be fondly remembered by his family and the many friends he made locally, in Alberta and in Nova Scotia.  

 Marvin is survived by his wife Connie (nee Howe), his son Jeff and his wife Debbie of Williamsburg. 

He will be fondly remembered by his siblings Edna Roskell (late Frank) of Hanesville, John (Joan) of Prescott, Linda Beckstead (William) of RR1 Iroquois, Basil (Debbie) of Nova Scotia, Tim of Nova Scotia and Tony (Della) of Hanesville. 

He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Michael, Rylee and Raven.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

Marvin was predeceased by his parents Garnet and Effie Keeler and his brother Garnet.  

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Friday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.  The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Friday, July 27 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Doug Carnegie officiating.  Cremation followed.
