Swim program begins at South Dundas beaches

The start of summer break means the start of the swimming lessons at the two municipal beaches in South Dundas.

Lifeguards went on duty in Iroquois and Morrisburg starting Monday, July 4th.

“We offer four different sessions throughout the season,” said Kennedi Gervais, South Dundas summer recreation programming student and bronze level swimming instructor.

“Each session lasts two weeks, with the last ending on August 26th.”

August 26th is the last day for lifeguards on the beaches Gervais stated.

The South Dundas recreation department uses the Red Cross preschool and swim kids program for children of all ages.

“We also offer the lifesaving society bronze level classes to youth in the hopes of keeping children in our community interested in the swim program and on their way to becoming lifeguards,” stated Gervais.

The bronze star class is for youth under 12, and the bronze medallion and bronze cross are for youth 13 and older.

Two students are registered for bronze classes in Morrisburg, and two in Iroquois for the bronze program.

Registration for all of the remaining sessions of swim program is still open. Contact the municipality for more information.

The Iroquois beach will hold a themed beach day on July 15th called “Under the Sea” with arts and crafts, a tug of war, and many games.

Morrisburg beach will host a theme day on August 5th with a Hawaiian theme. Activities planned include “volcanos in the sand”, arts and crafts, a tug of war, and a giant slip and slide on the side of the amphitheatre.
