Applications for the second intake of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program Grant were due June 24th, and days prior to the deadline, South Dundas announced that it will be applying for $72,161 for renovations to the Iroquois Civic Centre.
The fund is meant for projects that expand or improve existing community and cultural infrastructure.
According to the staff report, with a 2015 engineering/condition assessment report in hand, and with council input, it was determined that the renovations required would be a good fit with the CIP 150 program.
“Under the requirements of the program, applications must be for an asset that is open to the public and links to Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation,” said Katherine Wells, communications and tourism coordinator for South Dundas, who delivered the report.
Council approved the staff recommendation.
The total renovation project cost is estimated at $216,700.
If the funding application is successful, 33 per cent ($72,161) would come from the federal government fund.
The remainder of the cost ($144,539) would come from South Dundas’ 2016 working reserve budget.
