Main Street Morrisburg gaining momentum

Along the 86 kilometre County Road 2 drive, between Prescott and Cornwall, the view doesn’t really change much, and South Dundas economic development officer Rob Hunter would like to see that monotony end here.

In order to do that, he is proposing corridor enhancements, first to the Morrisburg area, from the Upper Canada Playhouse, eastward, possibly as far as the McIntosh Inn.

The “Morrisburg Main Street” concept, that is being proposed would require a landscape architect/urban designer to prepare a concept plan, as a next step forward from the recent traffic study.

South Dundas director of public works Chris Bazinet explained that the traffic study focused operationally on establishing a cohesive pedestrian network, while mitigating conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians.

He said that, as an operational guy, it would be great to see the plan examined through a landscape architect’s lense.

Hunter is also pressing for this project to move forward, having just seen first hand how important plaza improvements could be from the economic development perspective.
