Rain or shine, shoppers should plan to head to the Morrisburg Village Plaza for the 17th annual Antique Festival.
The longtime event, now organized and hosted by the Downtown Morrisburg Business Improvement Area, will this year feature some added attractions to broaden the appeal of the two-day festival.
Along with the antique vendors who will be set up under tents in the plaza court yard and a section of the parking lot, a farmers market, a car cruise in, and entertainment will be taking place.
Many varied antique vendors, showcasing their wares including glassware, signs and jewellery, will be joined by an SD&G winery, Smokie Ridge Vineyard of Mountain, who will host a wine tasting daily during the festival.
Local farmers market vendors will be on site throughout the Antique Festival.
The Open Car Cruise-In takes place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday only, with the first 75 cars receiving a dash plaque. The local Golden Gears Car Club is participating, along with any other clubs or car owners who choose to drop by.
Alongside the antiques on Sunday, live music will take place at the clocktower from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Featured will be SD&G area entertainers Chuck Leclair, Keegan Larose, Peter Fortin and Joseph Hehir. The music being played will be folk/jazz.
“This is a great event that allows us to showcase all that Downtown Morrisburg has to offer, including shops, restaurants and services,” says Grace McDonough, DBIA coordinator. “Antiquefest brings people from outside of SD&G into this area, providing the opportunity to bring some new money into the community. That’s why we hold events like this.”
As always, admission and parking are free for the Antique Festival which takes place Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 19, from10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This year, the DBIA is hosting a second summer festival event called Porkfest. This first time event will take place in the Morrisburg Village Plaza, August 22.
“It will be all about the pork,” says McDonough. Food vendors, including local service clubs, will be on site throughout the day serving up their special pork delights including ribs, pulled pork and sausages. A beer tent and entertainment will be part of the festivities and McDonough is hoping to arrange some children’s activities.
“Local restaurants are participating too with their own pork inspired specials,” said McDonough. She has tried Pizza Castle’s Porkfest inspired barbecue bacon sandwich. “It’s a must try,” she says. It is now available at Pizza Castle so people can get a taste of Porkfest a little early.
