SDG seeking funds for first roundabout

The October 4th South Dundas council meeting brought news about two roads in the township. 

Parlow Road from County Road 4 to County Road 2 is open to the public as of October 5.

Manager of Public Works, Hugh Garlough proposed to council that the road be designated “an open, Public Highway, maintained year round.”

According to Garlough, the road work for Parlow Road was completed by Willis Kerr Contracting on September 20, 2011.

He put before council a by-law “to insure that the benefitting properties contribute in a like manner to the construction cost of this road extension.” The by-law was approved.

Now that Parlow Road is officially open, Deputy Mayor Jim Locke revealed that he is “glad this controversial matter is finished.”

Councillor Archie Mellan agreed, adding that he’s “glad to see it’s going to be fair.”

In other road news, the Doran Creek Subdivision road’s name is now officially Doran Creek Drive.

The proposal for the name approval came through Garlough who received the request from Henry Swank of Swank Construction.

According to Garlough, “no other township road name is associated with this naming request.” Council unanimously approved the request.

South Dundas council passed a resolution at the April 16 council meeting to provide blanket support for any rooftop solar project through the FIT program within the municipality.

Council had staff draft the resolution for the sake of efficiency.

Every application was coming to council individually, with council taking the time to discuss and vote on each project, with the same outcome. 

With the blanket resolution, the applications can now be handled at the staff level.

“This resolution’s sole purpose is to enable participants in the FIT program to receive priority points under the FIT program and may not be used for the purpose of any other form of municipal approval in relation to the application or projects or any other purpose,” said Donald Lewis, South Dundas manager of planning and enforcement, in his report to council.

 Peetoo & Meetoo Would like to be adopted together. Miniature poodles, 3-4 yrs, males, not neutered. Possibly French. Obviously two, very well cared for dogs and obviously raised together. These two young gentlemen were strays and although the Shelter has reached out through Facebook and searched various lost online lost dog sites, their owners were not found. They were not wearing tags and not micro-chipped. A reminder of the importance of identification to all pet owners, even those with small dogs that wouldn't  normally leave the home environment.
