Ontario Coaching Excellence Award for Seaway District High School coach Mark Lewis

 

His passion is basketball, his expertise is track, but his desire is to develop young athletes and coaches through his coaching. 

“What I get out of coaching is my relationship with kids,” says Seaway District High School coach Mark Lewis who was recently honoured with a 2015 Ontario Coaching Excellence Award presented by the Coaches Association of Ontario.

Lewis attended the Varsity Theater in Toronto on Saturday, September 19, where he was one of nine recipients of a Coaching Excellence Award, his in the category of School Sport (Male). 

Coaches recognized in this category are inspirational role models in the community, garnering confidence and glowing praise from parents and local program leaders. The focus is on introducing children and youth to a sport; on developing fundamental movement skills, while creating a positive environment; and instilling a lifelong love of being active and continuing in sport.

“You don’t coach to win, you coach to teach,” says Lewis “And then you give them the test of the game.”

Lewis’ nomination originated at the OFSSA level  The nomination was selected by OFSSA and forwarded to the Coaches Association of Ontario.
