At the January 17th South Dundas council meeting, Councillor Archie Mellan inquired about the status of the new generator for Williamsburg.
“With the power outage on Friday (Jan. 13),” he said, “I’m just wondering where we are on this?”
With no answers forthcoming, South Dundas Manger of Public Works, Hugh Garlough, volunteered to oversee the situation.

“We started this a number of years ago. We can at least do our share toward it,” said South Dundas Mayor Steven Byvelds.
He was referring to the Dundas County Food Bank, which has been living rent-free at the Second Street location in Morrisburg.
Council members unanimously agreed that the food bank will continue to have their rental fees waived for as long as they remain at the Second Street location.
On July 22, at Guindon Park, Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell hosted a summer picnic for everyone in his riding. According to his ‘tweet’ later that day: “SD&SG Riding Picnic was a great success today with almost 200 enjoying sausages, hamburgers and good company.”
The picnic is expected to be an annual event and, according to McDonell’s executive assistant Marilyn McMahon, “It gives the people a chance to chat with and maybe meet the MPP, if they have not met him before, and it allows the MPP to have an opportunity to meet and chat with the people.”
South Dundas residents Lorne Strader and Doris Stewart were just two of the residents in McDonell's riding to attend and enjoy the picnic. Strader recently received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his many years of service to his community.
Iroquois has a jaunty new nautical look these days. On Tuesday, November 15, the community welcomed two completely refurbished Canadian Coast Guard Channel Markers to their new home just in front of the shopping plaza.
“These markers recognize Iroquois’ long connection to the Seaway with the locks here, the Galop Canal, the Marina and our extensive boating areas,” said local businessman, Jeff Beaupre.
“These brightly painted buoys will draw attention to tourism and also to boating safety.”
Several community organ-izations and businesses assisted in the project including the township of South Dundas, the Iroquois-Matilda Lions, Frank Ault Excavating, Swank Construction, the Iroquois District Business Group and the Coast Guard through Bill Mullin.
The twin buoys should soon become landmarks in the South Dundas region.
