Four goal first period leads to Peewee B win

SMITHS FALLS – The South Dundas Lions continued their see-saw battle at the top of the Peewee B standings, picking up win number six for the season with a decisive 7-3 victory over the Smiths Falls Bears October 24th.

The Bears struck early in the first period and led the game 1-0 until the halfway mark of the period. Lions’ forward Bryce Kirkwood (unassisted) found his way past the Bears goalie to tie the game. Skyler Keeler (unassisted) scored the go-ahead-goal on a Lions power-play three minutes later. Twenty seconds later Kade Vanbeilen (unassisted) put the Lions up 3-1. Keeler scored again with less than two minutes remaining in the period, Lions led the Bears 4-1.

South Dundas extended its lead to 6-1 by the end of the second period. First Kade Vanbeilen scored (unassisted) five minutes in, then Henry Martens (from Kirkwood) with five minutes remaining in the period.

The Bears attempted a come back in the third period. A pair of goals scored in the early minutes cut the Lions’ lead in half. A late goal by Jordan Lowe (unassisted) finished the Bears off. South Dundas won 7-3.

The Lions sit tied in points with the Kemptville Royals B1 team at 12 points. The Royals claim first place due to goal differential.

Up next, South Dundas will head up the 31 to Winchester to battle the North Dundas Demons on November 2nd.
