MORRISBURG – Time’s up for the Williamsburg landfill.

South Dundas council learned from staff at the June 4th meeting that the Williamsburg landfill will be closing this month.

As of June 3rd all garbage picked up by the curbside contractor is being delivered to the Matilda waste disposal site.

By June 30th the Williamsburg site will be closed to the public.

Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks officials last week met with South Dundas officials. From that meeting Geraghty said they were told: “No later than June 30th the Williamsburg landfill will be closed to all residents.”

“They are adamant that this will happen,” added Geraghty. “At this time it is in our best interest to work with them.”

Council agreed.

An earlier report WSP warned that the landfill would be full before the end of 2019.
