CARDINAL – Going into the Christmas break, the South Grenville Rangers secured an eight-point lead in the National Capital Junior Hockey League west division standings with a pair of wins this past weekend.
The Rangers took on the North Dundas Rockets December 23rd in Cardinal. The Rockets were in the hunt for points, trying to catch up to the Rangers in the standings.
North Dundas took a 1-0 lead late in the first period. South Grenville answered back early in the second period, which resulted in a back and forth game through out the period. The teams were log-jammed 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Jordan Dodge’s go ahead goal nine minutes into the third period, his second of the night, was the first of three unanswered goals scored in eight minutes.
Scoring for the Rangers were Dodge (two), Sam Martin (two), Noah Emonds, and Jack Finnerty. Lee Spurgeon picked up the win in net for the Rangers.
In their other game of the week, the Rangers shut out the West Carleton Inferno 6-0 December 22nd. Scoring for the Rangers were Cameron Dillon (two), Mathieu Giroux, Brody Ranger, and Connor Roche. Roche scored his first goal as an affiliated player for South Grenville.
The team returns to the ice January 5th.
