MORRISBURG – Joey Hannaford picked up three points while Justin Shay had two as the Major-Midget B Rep Lions defeated the Smiths Falls Bears 6-1 November 30th in Morrisburg.
Colin Minish started off the scoring for the Lions seven minutes into the game, set up by Hannaford, to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Oakley Beavers made it 2-0 Lions, with Hannaford and Lucas Bennis assisting.
Hannaford made it 3-0 Lions early in the second period, while Adam Lapier and Nicholas Brugmans each scored to extend the Lions lead to 5-0.
The Bears countered with their lone goal of the night from Cameron McEwen near the halfway point of the period. Lions continued to lead 5-1.
The Lions gave the Bears four power play opportunities in the second period, including over a minute of five-on-three hockey in the Bears favour. The Lions were able to successfully defend against the Bears.
Jonah Bennis added a goal early in the third period off Brugmans’ pass, to give the Lions a 6-1 win over the Bears.
The Lions move into third place in the Major-Midget standings with seven wins and one loss for 14 points. They sit six points back of the first place South Grenville Rangers with three games in hand.
