Morrisburg Public School said goodbye to 22 students who will be packing their bookbags and heading off to Seaway District High School in the fall.
There “you will become part of the graduating class of 2022,” said Seaway principal Don Lewis, who was a special guest of the M.P.S. Monday night graduation ceremony along with O.P.P. Constable Jim Blanchette (community police officer).
“I congratulate all of you on what you have achieved at Morrisburg Public School,” said Lewis. “We have hopes and high expectations both in and out of the classroom for you.”
Morrisburg principal, Sandra Sine-Szirtes also congratulated the students. “Entering a senior elementary school is very exciting. You have it in you to be anything you want to be. Have faith in yourself and listen to your heart.”
“I have had the pleasure of teaching this fabulous class over the past 10 months,” said teacher Katie Corden. We shared in each other’s successes, and they became part of my heart.”
Teachers Miss Corden and Miss Grant handed out awards for Language, French, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health and Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Drama and Dance.
An E for Effort award, for “trying her absolute best in all subject areas” went to Breanna Kirkwood.
Principal Sine-Szirtes then handed out nine Merit Awards.
This year’s School Council Award was presented by council member Cassandra Barry to Leah Barkley and Nathan Merkley for their hard work academically and their great commitment to the school and to their community.
The Trustees, Character Always Award was presented to Anna Puffer and Phoenix Pelehos by teacher Katie Corden, and the Principal’s Award by Sine-Szirtes to Gracie Fairbairn, for her “great character, great leadership and her commitment to the school and the community.”
Members of the MPS grade 6 graduating class are Bethany Baker, Brodie Baker, Connor Barkley, Leah Barkley, Jasmyne Beatty, Airreanna Brown, Haylee Ceasor, Michelle Chater, Nathan Douglas, Mackenzie Dumoulin, Connor Fluke, Gracie Fairbairn, Brooklyn Hitsman, Breanna Kirkwood, Nathan Merkley, Isaac Orendi, Owen Paterson, Phoenix Pelehos, Anna Puffer, Kelly Seeley, Logan Shields and Hannah Tasker.
