Seaway is Second in Intermediate Meet

“May 26 was an amazing day,” said Seaway District High School Intermediate teacher, Andrew Carson, also a coach, and one of the organizers of the USCSB Intermediate Track and Field Meet, held at Seaway in Iroquois Thursday of last week.

“We had 10 new records set, and by the looks on a lot of faces, there were many personal bests set too.

The weather was also nice for once,” he added, laughing, “lots of red skin from the sun instead of blue from the cold.”

Eight schools competed in the spring 2016 Track Meet. These included St. Mary/St. Cecilia, Ange-Gabriel, St. Joe’s, North Dundas, St. Mary’s (Brockville), South Grenville, Seaway and TISS.

Students in grades 7-8 competed in five events: long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put and turbojav.

In the course of the day, three Seaway students were among those breaking old track records and setting new performance bars.

Anu Hunter broke the record in long jump with 4.40m, while Moriah VanDodewaard set a new record in turbojav with 20.14m. Kayne McCadden of Seaway also set a new record for turbojav with a 29.15m throw.

Anna Henderson captured first place in shot put with 9.79m.

Tyler Barkley of St. Mary/St Cecilia was second in shot put with 9.69m.
