Perfect spring weather, and a full house greeted the 43 voice Seaway Valley Singers as the choir presented its 2016 concert, Thanks for the Music.
The Christian Reformed Church in Williamsburg was the setting, Friday, May 6, for the annual Spring concert by the popular area choir.
Conducted by Robert Jones, with piano accompanist Margaret Whisselle, the Seaway Valley Singers did not disappoint the record audience which attended the show.
With Wendy Gibb as the emcee for the evening, the Singers presented a varied and rich program.
From the classical demands of William Boyce’s “Hallelujah” to the light-hearted musical duel “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun, the choir, under director Jones, showed its musical diversity.
Highlights in the program were the Singers’ medley of selections from both Rogers’ and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, and from what is affectionately called the ‘jukebox musical’, Mamma Mia!
The 43 voice choir, whose members come from South Dundas and areas outside, rose to the challenge of songs from Gilbert and Sullivan. They also delivered a touching rendition of the Muppets’ Rainbow Connection.
As is the custom of the choir in their annual concerts (the other is at Christmas time), individual choir members also performed solos within the production.
Soprano Rhonda Schneckenburger and bass Mike Ouelette were featured in Annie Get Your Gun, while bass Dan Edwards soloed in the spiritual “Deep River”. Mamma Mia! reflected the talents of altos Isabelle Delage and Holly Johnston, as well as bass Ab Carr.
The Seaway Valley Singers is a not-for-profit organization, established in 1993, whose members are all volunteers.
The joy of music brings them together, and the audience has the pleasure of sharing in that joy at their twice yearly concerts.
Thanks for the Music filled the house on May 6, 2016.
