Minimal disruption from main distribution line leak

A couple of weeks ago, the main water distribution line between the South Dundas water treatment plant in Morrisburg and the town of Iroquois sprung a leak.

Thursday, March 3, crews unearthed the pipe to fix the leak.

“What we had was a failed fused joint,” said Chris Bazinet, director of public works for the Municipality of South Dundas.

“We are not sure what has caused the break,” he said, adding that the piece will be sent for analysis.

Because there are nine of these joints along the system, Bazinet said that it’s really important that they investigate the cause of the failure.

This is the first break that has occurred along the transmission line since it was originally constructed about 10 years ago.
