Mixed bag for Bantam B House

The South Dundas Bantam B House had mixed results in their league action this pastweekend, kicking it off on home ice on Saturday, with a big 9-2 decision over the Smith Falls Bears, but then becoming a victim of the league leading Kemptville 2 Panthers, by a 6-1 count, in Kemptville, on Sunday.

As the teams head into the final games of the 2015/16 season this week, how the Bantam House League is going to settle out still remains a question mark.

As this story is written, the Kemptville 2s are looking fairly solid in first place with 32 points in 20 games.  Very much still up for grabs are the second, third and fourth place positions with Athens and South Dundas tied with 28 points, Athens in 21 games and Lions having completed 23.

Close behind are the Kemptville 1s with 26 points in 22 games. Fifth place South Grenville has 21 points, Brockville is next with 17 and Smith Falls has 10.

Saturday on home ice against the Bears 2 team, the Lions were strong out of the starting gate going up 2-0 in the first period on goals by Aden Casselman (from Thomas Rae and Brady Smith) and Smith from Justin Dagenais.

The Bears got one back early in the second when Joshua Gorin counted against Lions affiliate goaltender Kelly Forrester who saw weekend action for Michael Mustard who is out with an injury.

But that was it for the Bears, and the Lions extended their lead with a pair back-to-back goals first from Jayden Shaver, and then from Aden Casselman (to complete a three goa performance).

Then in the third period, the Lions continued their assault with goals from Kieran Geurkink, Justin Dagenais and Jayden Rowe as they headed towards the 9-2 victory.

Joseph Bedford counted the Braves final goal with 1:39 left in the game.

In their second match of the weekend, the Lions were unable to put up much of a defence against the league leading Panther 2s in their home barn.

The Panthers led 2-0 after the first period and carried a 5-0 lead into the third.

It was early in the third that the Lions Max Garlough, assisted by Jayden Shaver, spoiled Jesse Zlomislic’s shut out bid.

The Lions final game of the 24-game season will be played tonight, Wednesday, February 3, in Morrisburg. League play wraps up Friday, February 12. Once finished their schedule, the Lions will be watching with interest the results of the remaining league games.
