Marie Locey

A lifetime resident of the Riverside Heights area, Guy Hart passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.  He was 68.

Guy was born in Williamsburg Township, on November 18, 1944, to his parents John and Pearl Hart (nee Jackson). He attended Archer Public School and then Morrisburg Collegiate Institute.  

Following high school, Guy worked at the Ford plant in Oakville until 1965. He then moved back to Morrisburg where he married Gayle Lang. 

Guy and Gayle settled in Riverside Heights, where they had made their home for the past 43 years and raised their children, Bobby, Gary and Mauri-Anne. 

Guy worked at Black Lumber in Morrisburg for 31 years. He and Gayle then operated the Break-A-Way restaurant in Morrisburg, for four years. Guy then worked at the Morrisburg Building Center for 10 years until his retirement in 2009.  

Because of these jobs, Guy had the pleasure of meeting people coming to Morrisburg for the first time. He also worked at Pinkus Tire and Battery for two years following his retirement. 

Guy played an important role in the construction of the first ball park in Riverside Heights. He also helped start Riverside’s first kids softball team called the Riverside Rascals and the first adult softball team called the Riverside Raiders. It was during those years he got the nickname “Guy La Glove”.

Anyone who met Guy never forgot his kindness, generosity, eagerness to help and his unique way with words. 

Guy had many hobbies and interests. He loved darts, broomball, being a hockey and ball coach, referee and spending countless hours with his friends. 

Guy is survived by his wife Gayle Hart (nee Lang), his children Bobby-Jack (Tara) of South Mountain, Gary (Doris) of Pidgeon Island and Mauri-Anne (Ben) Guitard of Metcalfe and his sister Gail (Carl) Robinson of Nudell Bush.  

Guy will be sadly missed by grandchildren Matt, Parker, Wade, John, Olivia, Sam and Sasha, and by his special friends Keith Wereley and Mike Froats.

He was predeceased by his sister June Lawrence and his brother Gary.  

There was no visitation at the funeral home.  A Celebration of Guy’s life was held at the George Jowett Recreation Centre, Riverside Heights on Sunday, August 18th, from noon until 3 p.m.  

Arrangements were entrusted to the Marsden and Mclaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

A resident of the area for the past 58 years, Ralph Bouwman passed away at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 5, 2011, following a brief illness.  He was 85. 

Ralph was born in Nieuw Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on October 22, 1926, and was raised there on the family farm.

He served his country as a member of the Armed Forces, and he fought in the Indonesian war from 1945-49.  

On July 14, 1953, he married Jacoba Heuving, and three weeks later they boarded a boat to immigrate to Canada.  This, to them, was a land of opportunity even though they both had to learn to read and write the English language.  

Ralph and Coby started farming on the 2nd Concession, north of Iroquois, and eventually passed the farm on to their son Henry.  

Ralph was a devoted husband to Coby for 58 years and together they raised a family of five boys and one girl.  

Ralph loved a lot and got a lot of love in return.  He loved the Lord, he loved his family, he loved people, he loved to joke and tease, and he loved to play the harmonica and sing his favorite hymns.  

He was an avid soccer fan and was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan.  

He was a faithful member of the Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church, and he walked and talked daily with his Lord until the end. 

Ralph is survived by his wife Coby Bouwman (nee Heuving), his children Ralph (Wilma) of Morrisburg, Henry (Elsie) of   R.R.# 1 Iroquois, Bill (Wendy) of Merrickville, John (Amani) of Williamsburg, Andrew (Lori Ann) of Ingleside and Dorean (Garnet) DeVries of Smiths Falls and his sister Hennie (Walter) Heuving of Athens.  

Ralph will be fondly remembered by 21 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.   

He was predeceased by sisters Jantje Van Oenen and Jacobtje Boning and brothers Hendrik, Harm, William and Albert.    

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday, November 9th at 11 a.m., with Rev. John Noordhof officiating.  

Interment followed at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg. 

Pallbearers were grandsons Adam Bouwman, Jonathan Bouwman, Joshua Bouwman, Eric Bouwman, Jared DeVries, and Lucas Bouwman

A resident of the Mayfield Retirement Home in Prescott for the past six months, Myrtle Collison (nee Levere) passed away at the Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2015.  She was 84. 

Myrtle was born in Morrisburg, on August 20, 1930, to her parents William and Nettie Levere (nee Richmire). 

She married Brock Collison in 1947, and together they raised their family in Iroquois. They lived on the Broken Second for over 50 years. 

Myrtle was a homemaker. She baked every day for her family and soon she was taking orders from neighbours and friends on a weekly basis. She baby sat for neighbours and later for many of her grandchildren. 

In addition, she worked occasionally with Jean and Hartley Carkner painting and wallpapering during the day and taking care of her ever growing family. 

As the years went by and Brock retired, they started a small business; selling antiques and Watkins at McHaffies Flea Market. They had a booth there for over 20 years. 

In April of 2007, Brock passed away and Myrtle continued selling at McHaffie’s for a few more years until she sold the family home in 2012. 

She then moved to Brockville where she resided happily at the Bridlewood Retirement Home for a couple years. She then moved on to spend her final days at Mayfield Manor in Prescott. 

Myrtle is survived by  her children Allen of Cornwall, Billy (Susan Ebb) of Ottawa, Gary (Madilene) of Iroquois, Daryl Kennedy (Steven) of Spencerville and Arlene Sullivan of Brockville, and by her siblings Rose Bartholomew (Freeman) of Stittsville, Shirley Bannister of Belleville, Berneice Keeler of Prescott and Dan Levere of Ottawa.  

She was predeceased by her husband Brock, her infant daughter Charlene, her daughter Donna Croteau, her son Raymond, her sisters Eva Bennett, Sally Markell, Jean Annable, Ann  Bouchard, Edna Levere, Byrtle Levere and brothers Douglas, Duane  and Allen Levere.  

Myrtle will be fondly remembered by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Saturday, January 10th from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service which was conducted by Rev. Doug Carnegie. 

Spring interment will be at Spruce Haven Cemetery, Brinston.  Pallbearers were Gary Collison, Calvin Collison, Paul White, Luke Myers, Brian Follett and Dustin Martin.
