Gertrude Janet Yates

 

Gertrude Janet Yates of Morrisburg, and formerly of Osnabruck Township, passed peacefully in the arms of her daughter at the Osgoode Care Centre on Friday, September 11, 2015. She was in her 102nd year.

Gertrude, the daughter of the late James Roger and Lilias (nee McColl) Adams, was born on May 16, 1914, in Cornwall Township. 

On August 4, 1947, in Montreal, she married William Yates who predeceased her in 1964.

Gertrude was a hard worker. She ran a farm (which included milking, and caring for the chickens and pigs) while also working at Caldwell Linen Mills in Iroquois.

A caring person, always there for her family, Gertrude enjoyed cooking and baking. She was an excellent seamstress.

She had a passion for driving her car, and she liked to take friends along with her. Playing euchre was a past time she thoroughly enjoyed.

She loved her cats which kept her company, and she usually provided a loving home for two at a time.

Gertrude resided at the Woodland Villa in Long Sault, for the past eight years and had been living at the Osgoode Care Centre for the last four months.

Gertrude was the beloved wife of the late Bill Yates and loving mother of Lorraine Robertson of Iroquois, Lorna Harris of Ottawa, Brenda Dolan (Allan Patterson) of Morrisburg and Cheryl Mathieu (Tom Gosling) of Maynard.

She was dear grandmother of Mike, Doreen, Laurie,Troy, Ronda, Janet, Bradley, Jason and Christine, and she will be fondly remembered by several great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was caring sister of Lenora Laplante of Port Colborne, and  dear aunt to several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter Doreen Adams, sister Mabel Prieur, brothers Ernie and Carl Adams and sons-in-law Mike Robertson and Fred Mathieu.

Friends were received at the Parker Funeral Home in Morrisburg, on Wednesday September 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Gertrude was a member of the Anglican Church and her funeral service was conducted by Rev. Jon Martin in the chapel at the funeral home on September 17, 2015, at 11 a.m.

Interment was at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault.

Bearers were Al Patterson, Tom Gosling, Ken Adams, Troy Fawcett, Greg Boyle and Michael Yates.
