North Glengarry deputy mayor takes over as warden for SDG

December 18, North Glengarry Deputy-Mayor Jamie MacDonald assumed the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry Counties council Warden’s Chair for the year 2016.

MacDonald replaces outgoing Warden Eric Duncan, who served as County Warden for 2014 and 2015.

The annual Inauguration Ceremony, held today at the historic County Administration Building, was attended by about 100 people, including MacDonald’s wife Brenda and children Madison and Cameron.

Also in attendance were representatives of the federal and provincial governments, as well as the City of Cornwall and local SDG municipalities.

Warden MacDonald has been a member of North Glengarry Council for nine years, serving as Councillor for Alexandria Ward between 2006 and 2011 and as Deputy-Mayor and County Councillor since 2012.

While a member of County Council, MacDonald has served as a member (currently chair) of the Service Manager Joint Liaison Committee (County/City of Cornwall) as well as the St. Lawrence River Institute.

MacDonald is a business owner in Alexandria and is actively engaged in the Alexandria and broader North Glengarry community.

“I am very proud to be serving as SDG Warden in 2016”, said MacDonald.

“With 165 years of history as a municipality, we have a long and proud past. We have a great Council and staff and there are a number of important challenges and opportunities facing the County in 2016. I intend to work closely with my Council colleagues tackling these challenges, including strengthening our relationship with our service delivery partners and undertaking some needed renovations to County facilities to improve access, service delivery, and safety.”
