Quade Mullin shuts out Braves

The “Mudde Farms” Atom B Rep Lions hosted the Brockville Braves on Saturday, December 12th, and with outstanding goaltending from Quade Mullin they put together a hard fought 1-0 win. The first period ended in a scoreless draw with the slight edge in play going to the visiting Braves.

Quade Mullin turned away every shot he faced while his counterpart, Jacob Grieg did the same.

However, the Lions were only successful getting the puck on net once during the opening frame.

One highlight of the first, other than the saves by Mullin, was a long pass from Devon Honders to Cooper McCooeye.  Unfortunately, McCooeye’s shot was blocked by a Braves defender.

The Lions opened the scoring early in the second with a highlight reel goal.

Austin “Oz” Roy started the play with a beauty stretch pass to Sam Connors in the neutral zone.  After breaking over the Braves line with Monty Dejong, Connors slid the puck over to Dejong, who then gave it back to Connors who tipped it past Grieg.

Dejong made another key play with 20 seconds left in the second period, this time in his end of the ice.  Just when it looked as if the Braves were going to apply some late pressure, Dejong made a key poke check at his blue line. This knocked the puck out of the zone and helped kill off the remaining seconds.

The two teams continued to battle for every inch of ice in the third.

Mullin came up big on a couple of occasions when his team failed to get the puck out over their blue line. The Lions were able to make the 1-0 lead stand up.

The Lions defence of Honders, Roy, Ben Radley, Terrence Mudde, and Alek Larocque played one of their best games of the year.

Honders, Roy, and Radley, not only looked after their own end, but rushed the puck to safety when the time called for it.

Mullin defended his title as Lions “Game Champ” for his solid play in goal.  He also earned his first shutout of the year.

The Lions have now won three of their last four games and host undefeated Char Lan here Saturday, December 19.
