The ATCO structure that will serve as a shelter for skaters at the Dundela outdoor rink arrived December 8, but everyone is still awaiting the arrival of winter.
Unless the weather deviates drastically from what long range forecasts are predicting, the building may not see much use this winter.
“At this rate, I don’t expect there will be much opportunity for ice this season,” said Ben Macpherson, recreation programming coordinator for the Municipality of South Dundas.
Although it is mid December, there’s no frost in the ground, which is essential for outdoor ice.
“We’d need a month long deep freeze to get the right conditions, and I don’t know that that’s going to happen,” said Macpherson.
“Regardless of the chance of having ice, we are working to have the building ready as soon as possible.”
