South Dundas Seniors Enjoy Lions’ Christmas Party

The hall was definitely decked with holly, and plenty of other Christmas decorations, as over 200 South Dundas seniors enjoyed an annual Christmas party in their honour.

Hosted by the Morrisburg & District Lions, and the Iroquois-Matilda Lions, Matilda Hall at Dixons Corners was the place to  party on Saturday, November 28.  For more than 10 years, the two Lions Clubs have worked together to bring Christmas cheer, good food and great entertainment to area seniors. Helping out as Santa’s Elves, were the Morrisburg Leos.

Dr. Wayne Domanko was the emcee for the evening, welcoming the guests.

“You all represent a generation of hard-working, honest people who offer a great legacy to all of our communities. Laughter is the greatest medicine, and today we are going to share a lot of laughs.”

Then Domanko went on to deliver some of his now “famous” jokes and routines for the very appreciative audience.

This year, entertainment was provided by Roxanne Delage and Rod Robillard. Their sparkling Christmas song stylings had the audience tapping its toes, and even saw a few guests up on their feet and dancing with the elves.

The Lions clubs work hard to ensure that the annual Christmas party is a memorable one.

“Members of both clubs made sandwiches: we were here for 9:30 this morning. And we had great sweets and baking for the event,” said Lion Linda Robinson. Lions waited on the tables and made sure that all the party goers got plenty to eat.

A Lions chorus also got up and serenaded the audience with a rousing version of “Jingle Bells”, very enthusiastically, if not always strictly on key!

Certainly a high point of the event was the arrival of Frosty the Snowman, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. They circulated around the hall greeting long-time friends and no doubt picking up a few ideas for Christmas wish lists.

The Lions were very grateful for the support given to their Christmas event by area sponsors. Helping to make this a great 2015 party were McEwen Petroleum, The Hartford Retirement Centre, Whitteker Bus Lines, Iroquois Foodland and Smyth Orchards.
