Seaway Undergrads Honoured

 

Family, teachers and friends gathered at Seaway District High School on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m., to honour the hard work and dedication of the undergraduates of the 2014-15 school year.

Proficiency awards for highest standings were presented to students from grade 9 to grade 11.

Applied and academic students were honoured in their individual subject areas. Students achieving an overall average of 80 per cent, in all three grades, were also recognized for their success.

Vice principal Tania Stover was able to present two Seaway students, Alyssa Grant (grade 9) and Kaitlyn Stewart (grade 10) with certificates for achieving over 90 percent in their studies. Sophia Currier, who placed over 90 per cent in grade 11, was absent from the awards ceremony.

Sophia is currently taking enrichment courses in math and science, during this semester, at the Ontario Science Centre. 

The evening dedicated to celebrating the many and varied abilities of Seaway students, also recognized other fields of student success.

The Upper Canada District School Board believes that building character is an important aspect of the high school experience. Attributes of character are also qualities which should be celebrated among students.

This year, these students were recognized for the behaviours of solid citizenship and character.

Zachary Hitsman, caring; Logan Millward, fairness; Kristina Howard, honesty; Julenea Barnhartd, empathy; Spencer Fawcett, responsibility; Michael Butler, perseverance; Hayley Tyo, respect; Grace Barkley, resilience.

The program for the evening  concluded with a celebration of student success in the fields of athletics and sportsmanship.

Seaway students’ individual accomplishments in the sports of cross country, volleyball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, hockey and track and field were recognized at the ceremony.

Teacher and coach Mark Lewis  presented the Outstanding Male Athlete Award to Griffin Patterson.

Winning the Outstanding Female Athlete and the Irv Francis Awards for the 2014-15 school year was Sophia Currier.
