A resident of Morrisburg for the past 33 years, Nick Theodosiou passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sunday, September 27, 2015. He was 70.

Nick was born in Greece, on October 14, 1944, to his parents Polycarpos and Efstathia Theodosiou (nee Tassakos).  

Nick is survived by his wife Janet Theodosiou (nee Manuell), by his daughters Effie Vardaxoglou (Billy) of Laval and Matina Tsiavos (Chris) of Laval, and his stepdaughter Becky Pena of Ottawa.

He will be remembered by his grandchildren Alexandros, Eleni and Ioanna Vardaxoglou; his brother Tony (Stephanie) and his family Effie and Paul; his sister Toula Tsigenopoulos (Aris) and her family Rhea, Michel and  Paul; and his cousin Bobby Tassakos and his family Spiros, Marina and Lambros.  

He was predeceased by his parents Polycarpos and Efstathia Theodosiou and his brother Bob.  

Friends called at the Bernier M A Blyth Funeral Home, 940 Ave. Ogilvy, Montreal, on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. 

Funeral service was held at Holy Cross Church, 4865 Souvenir Blvd., Laval, on Friday, October 2nd at 11 a.m.  Interment followed at Notre Dame de L’Esperance Cemetery in Laval.    

A Celebration of Nick’s life was held at Nick’s Family Restaurant in Morrisburg, on Saturday, October 3rd from 2-5 p.m.  

Arrangements were entrusted to the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Donations to the charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.

Phyllis Simser

A lifetime resident of the area, Phyllis Simser passed away suddenly at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Monday January 19, 2015.  She was 71. 

Phyllis was born in Mountain Township, on March 11, 1943, to her parents Robert and Effie Simser (nee Skuce).

Phyllis is survived by her daughters Kate Gray (Barry) and Laurie Barkley (Gary) both of Williamsburg.  

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Nathan Kerr (Kaitlin), Maria Gray, Julie and Crystal Barkley, Melissa McKiel (Sean) and Lisa Turner and by her great-grandchildren Rose, Emmitt, Madilynn, Easton and Ainsleigh. 

She is also survived by nine brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was predeceased by her lifetime companion Garnet Stata, her daughter Linda Turner, and by two brothers and one sister.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A private family interment was held at the New Union Cemetery in Williamsburg.

Pallbearers were Barry Gray, Nathan Kerr, Gary Barkley and Jonathon Moore.

Dr. Lloyd G. D. Thompson

Dr. Lloyd G. D. Thompson died peacefully at the Hartford Home in Morrisburg, on Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was in his 90th year. 

Dr. Thompson was the dearly beloved husband of E. Jean Thompson (Akerley) and loving father of Nancy Edson (Scott) of Jericho VT, Connie Perlin (Neil) of Tewksury MA, Merwyn Thompson (Robin) of Billerica MA, and Lloya Sprague (Dwayne) Morrisburg. 

He is predeceased by four brothers and one sister, cherished by six grandchildren: Tina, David, Holly, Andrew, Ernie and Lisa and four great-grandchildren: Eleanor, Zachary, Samantha and James as well as by many nieces and nephews.  

A WWII Veteran and RCAF fighter and bomber pilot, Dr. Thompson went on to receive a BA in Science, and a Masters and PhD in physics.  

He was recruited by the United States Air Force Research Agency where he specialized in geophysics, the gravity of the earth. He was a geophysics professor at Northeastern University and the principal investigator for NASA’s lunar space program. 

Upon returning to Ontario, Dr. Thompson worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Richmond Hill and transferred to Tweed as the geophysicist for Southern Ontario at the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines until he retired.

He was a bright, intelligent man with a wonderful smile, was a loyal friend and loved reading, planes, history, card games and being with family. He will be missed.

His ashes will be laid to rest at Springfield cemetery in New Brunswick along side his devoted wife Jean.
