Cst. Ronald Pitt Memorial bridge dedication in November

The 750 Highway 401 overpass at Morrisburg will be dedicated as the Cst. Ronald Pitt Memorial Bridge, now that the application to the Ministry of the Transportation that allows for the naming of bridges on provincial highways in memory of police officers who have died in the line of duty, has been approved.

OPP officer Justin McKenna who has been overseeing the application told South Dundas council of the approval and that the dedication will take place November 13, 2015, at the Morrisburg Legion.

The son of Cst. Pitt – Ronald Jr., who was seven years old when his father died, plans to attend the dedication. He lives in Scotland.

Constable Ronald Pitt was shot and killed in the line of duty August 24, 1957. Pitt was shot by two gunmen as he approached a stolen vehicle in Morrisburg. He never recovered from the injuries and those responsible were never apprehended.
