Carl Russell Banford died peacefully at his home in Iroquois on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the age of 90 years.  

Carl was born on October 9, 1922, in Matilda Township, to Alexander Banford and the former Annie Mae Fader.  

He was raised and educated in Maxville, in his early years before his family moved back to Iroquois. 

He worked for Jack Kerr as an apprentice then for Esso Home heating after which he retired  at the age of 53 years.  

Carl married Hilda Mustard on July 24, 1943, in Iroquois.  They had two children Joanne Banford of Iroquois, and Eric and his wife Alice of Perth.  

Carl served during the Second World War. He enlisted at the age of 20, was captured on the fifth day and was a POW for 11 months. He was released in May 1945.  

Carl was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 370 in Iroquois. He served 28 years on the Iroquois Fire Department and two years as a Sunday school teacher at St. John’s Anglican Church.  

For many years Carl was an avid carpenter and painter.  After retiring, he worked at Upper Canada Village as a tinsmith and taught many students his trade.

Carl leaves to mourn his wife Hilda Banford, his daughter Joanne, his son Eric and his wife Alice and his sister Frances Andrew of Peterborough.

He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Joshua (Amanda) and Erica (Rob) Hodgson Shane and Pat Dawson and by his great-grandchildren Liam Thomas and Alexandria Li. 

He was predeceased by his parents and  his infant brother Gordon.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews.  

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Wednesday, February 6, from 4-7 p.m.  A Legion Service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.  

Funeral service was held at St. John`s Anglican Church in Iroquois, on Thursday, February 7 at 11 a.m.  Donations to St. John`s Anglican Church in Iroquois or the charity of choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.

Donald F. Brothers of Massena, New York, passed away suddenly on January 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was 71 years old.

Donald was born on November 15, 1941, in Massena, to Leeward and Evelyn Brothers. He graduated from Massena High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Honourably discharged, he served his country during the Vietnam War.

He married Jean Hall of Morrisburg, on May 27, 1978, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riverside Heights, Ontario, with the Rev. Pam McGee presiding.

Donald was employed at Alcoa in Massena, for 39 years.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Jean Hall Brothers, a brother Gary and his wife Shirley and sister Elaine Fournier, all of Massena.

He is also survived by sister-in-law Pat and husband Glenn Beckstead, niece Kim Kirkwood and Godchild Paige Kirkwood all of Morrisburg and by several nieces and nephews in the U.S.A.
