Royal Bank Bake Sale, Bakes up a Big Day for Breast Cancer

It takes a lotta’ sweets to satisfy a whole community and that was no problem on Friday, when clients and staff of the Royal Bank in Iroquois, opened their oven doors to a giant Bake Sale that raised a whopping $1,744 for Breast Cancer. Now an annual affair since 2007, Royal Bank Accounts Manager Marie Prosser said, “October is breast cancer month, and we like to host our bake sale before Thanksgiving. We couldn’t do this without the support of the entire Iroquois community,” she added as she looked over the incredible amount of baked goods provided for the sale. Joining the Royal Bank Breast Cancer fundraiser are the Royal Bank branches in Prescott and Spencerville. With Prescott raising $672 and Spencerville adding another $370 to the baking pot that brought the fundraiser total to $2,786. Pictured above left is Prosser with volunteers Bea Smith and Anna Smail who were kept busy stocking the tables and assisting the customers.

TeeJay- 5 year old Rottie, friendly with people & other dogs, not neutered. 

Five years plus, German Shepherd. Female. Not spayed. Beautiful, mature Shepherd. Completely trained and very gentle and friendly. Her first family had to move and couldn't take her, and her second attempt at a home did not work out when her new family tired of her. This girl really deserves a break, that would truly give her a FOREVER home.

Lindsay, 4 months old mixed breed terrier puppy. not spayed. Lindsay is a very gentle puppy and loves to snuggle and be petted. She is ready for a new home to hang her hat and ready to work hard on all that puppy training. Although she does need housetraining it has been noticed at the Shelter that she does try to wait to get outdoors, so it is suspected there had been some work done with her. We don't suspect that Lindsay will grow to be an overly large dog…probably on the smaller side of a mid-sized dog.

Dakota, Golden Retriever mixed, male puppy not neutered. Very affectionate, Dakota will be a good sized guy when he grows up. Like all Retrievers, Koda is already showing the trait of his breed, that being a "People dog". He appears to love all people, is very friendly and loves to romp and play. Has had a wee bit of training and will almost successful play retrieve. Dakota is a big, rolly, polly puppy who would be a perfect fit in a fun-loving family.

Peanut is a 1.5 to 2.5 year old Poodle mix. A tiny little boy, Peanut is very affectionate. He loves kisses and playing and is looking for a new home that he can call his own forever. Peanut is not neutered.

Renowned speaker at Lakeshore U.C. May 11

Paul Harris will speak at the Lakeshore United Church, Morrisburg, Saturday, May 11. 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 

His Theme is: Christian Meditation: Contemplative Prayer for a New Generation.

Paul  is a former journalist and public servant living in Ottawa. He is n internationally-renown speaker and retreat leader. he is author of eight books om Christian Meditation.

Christian meditation, recovered by Benedictine monk, John Main (1926-1982), is an ancient prayer of silence, stillness and simplicity that leads us on our spiritual journey to find a deeper experience of God.

The program consists of two talks by Paul on the teaching of John Main and a time of silent meditation.

There is no cost but please bring finger food to share.

Local Diamond Jubilee recipients announced

A handful of South Dundas residents are among the 30 residents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarrry who will be receiving a special decoration on December 9th.

Monday, SDSG Member of Parliament, Guy Lauzon, announced the names of local community leaders who have been selected as recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

“We were overwhelmed with the response to nominations and the number of worthy candidates for the Medals,” said MP Lauzon. 

“We are so blessed to live in such a great community and country. These individuals have truly made a difference and are excellent examples of leaders and Canadians who make us proud.”

The following SDSG residents were named as recipients: Joan Farlinger, Doug Grenkie, Dr. Graham Houze, Trevor Tolley, Helen Tupper, Sean Adams, Bill Bresee, Pastor Thurland Brown, Jim Brownell, Wayne Burns, Father Bernard Cameron, Shirley Coons, Mamie David, Rose Desnoyers, Barbara Ann Glaude, Ernie Filion, Ken Heagle, Sandy Lalonde, Rachelle Lamond, Gilles Latour, Rick Marvell, Dr. Mary Randlett, Gerald Samson, Josee Sauve, Rick Shaver, Sue Tarle, Theresa Taylor, Karen Torrie-Racine, Sandy Weagant and Miriam Wheeler.

A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. 

The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. A formal ceremony to present the honors will take place on Sunday, December 9th at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in St. Andrew’s West. The event will begin at 1:30 pm and is open to the public to attend.
