Jean Roles

A lifetime resident of the area, Jean Roles passed away peacefully at Brockville General Hospital with her family by her side, on Saturday, August 10, 2013. She was 85.

Jean was born in Williamsburg Township, on July 4, 1928, to her parents Frank and Eva Casselman (nee Bowman).  Jean was the youngest of eight children, and she was an aunt to two young nieces the day she was born.

Jean never knew her father because he passed away four months before she was born after being struck by a falling tree while cutting wood in the bush.

Around 1944, Prescott was booming, so after finishing school Jean and her friends moved to Prescott to work and that is where she met the love of her life, Donald “Duke” Roles.

They were married on August 10, 1946, and lived in Prescott for a year before moving to Morrisburg, where Jean resided for the next 63 years.

Jean will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a kind, generous person who possessed a hearty laugh and a tremendous faith in God.  This faith helped her maintain a positive outlook and cope with the difficulties she experienced throughout her life such as being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was just 30 years of age.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very proud of her family and their accomplishments. She always took great pride in her appearance.

Jean is survived by her children Sandra (Barry) McIntosh of Prescott and Wayde (Linda) of Boucks Hill, her grandchildren Lance (Cheryl) McIntosh, Laine McIntosh, Derek (Danette) Roles and her great-grandchildren Landon, Brooke, Taylor and Jayden.  Dear sister of Wellington (Ruth) Casselman of Froatburn.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Donald, her sisters Viola Casselman and Arabella Richmire and her brothers Wesley, Francis, Eric and Enos Casselman.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Tuesday, August 13th, from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. The service was conducted by Rev. Norine Gullons.  Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Morrisburg.

Honorary pallbearer was Arnold Roles. Active pallbearers were Lance McIntosh, Laine McIntosh, Derek Roles and Robert Hamilton.

Donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Online condolences may be made at marsdenmclaughlin.com.
