The 19th Hole

The week kicked off at the Morrisburg Golf Course with the weekly ladies night on Wednesday, sponsored by Lloya and Dwayne Sprague at the Morrisburg Home Hardware Store.

The biggest crowd of the ladies night season was on hand last Wednesday, and says club captain Monique Patenaude, “everyone had a wonderful time.” 

The evening game was “the closest”… Closest to the chipping basket on the 10th hole won by Deanna Cassell, Closest to the hole on 14 won by Barb McWhinnie, Closest to the line on 16 won by Lillian Noon and closest to the pin from off the green on 18 won by Brenda Stitt.

In men’s night action on Thursday Brian McNairn and Greg Millard led the field of 71 golfers with 71s.

McNairn’s 71 gave him the low gross in A flight, while Millard claimed the low gross prize in B flight. Right on their heels was Ken Rundle who posted a 38 to win C flight.

Net winners were Shawn Hummel in A flight, Jeff Cassell in B and Al Graham in C.

Millard won closest to the pin on the par three 14th hole and Rob Murphy won closest to the hole on the par three 17th.

The evening was sponsored by Bill Barclay and Brister Insurance.

Two in a row for U18 Kickers

The Seaway Kickers U18 Girls soccer team hosted the Ottawa Internationals soccer team on a hot and humid Monday night and came out on top 4 – 0.  

The Kickers played a very complete game and spent most the evening in the Ottawa Internationals end.  

The first goal came on a strong throw-in by Kaitlyn Merkley to Alyssa MacMillan who made a nice pass to Lesley-Ann Tupper who finished the play with a big goal to start the scoring for the Kickers.  

The second goal was on a huge corner kick by Jessica Hartle for an easy goal by Sarah Gudlaugsson.  

The third goal started with a great throw-in by Michaela Morrow and was finished by Sarah Gudlaugsson.  

The fourth and final goal of the game was again off a corner kick by Michaela Morrow to Ashley Smith to the back of the net.  

The shutout was shared by keepers Jade Millward and Kailyn Douglas.  The Kickers played Monday, June 18th at Seaway District H.S. against the Nepean Hotspurs but results were not available at press time.

Hole-in-one for Lee Beaupre

hat better time for a hole-in-one than when you are in the hunt for a club championship.

Such was the case for Morrisburg golfer, Lee Beaupre, during the final 18 club championship holes at the Morrisburg Golf Club on Sunday.

Beaupre was in good company, good hole-in-one company actually, when he stepped to the tee on the par three 11th hole which was playing to 130 yards.

When he hit, he knew he had made a good shot. “I could see it and I knew it was slowing down as it got to the hole.”

He, however, couldn’t quite tell if it had gone in or was resting in the shadow of the flag.

However, McNairn who has scored five aces, could see it, and said, “Lee it disappeared.”

Mann, who has had two holes-in-one, was also certain it had gone in.

Asked what Beaupre’s reaction was when he realized it really had gone in, Moore, (who has also had five aces) said, “Lee jumped as high as he could jump the Phil Mickelson jump.”

Beaupre has been golfing for 33 years and this is his first hole-in-one. The ace helped him to record a two-over-par 74 for a 153 total over the 36 hole tournament.

Bob Mann won the men’s championship with a 151, and Beaupre was the A flight champion.
