Ilse Giese

A lifetime resident of the area, Yvonne Veley passed away suddenly at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 30, 2013. She was 75.

Yvonne “Vonnie” was born in Chesterville, on March 13, 1938, to her parents Napoleon and Mildred Paul (nee Price).  In December of 1955, she married Fred Veley, and together they had three children Bill, Linda and Joanne.  

Vonnie worked at RCA in Prescott for a number of years before going to work at Beavers Dental in Morrisburg, until she retired. 

As an avid golfer she was part of the executive for the Morrisburg Golf Club. She liked getting together with family/friends and neighbours. Vonnie and Fred always took turns having parties and great times were had by all, with jokes and pranks.

Vonnie’s morning ritual started with a coffee with Janis. Together they would talk about memories of their many years as close friends.  

Vonnie loved going to Ompah and spending time with the Mabo family. Sometimes she would go with Fred, and other times she travelled to Ompah by herself.

She also enjoyed going on bus tours with her friends.  She loved going to the casino and had her best trip to Las Vegas with her niece Cheri.  

Her passion for quilting supplied many family and friends with works of art that they will always cherish.

Vonnie was dear mother of Bill (Nicole) Veley of Russell, Linda (John) St. Denis of R.R.# 3 Williamsburg and Joanne (Norm) Stone of Morrisburg.

She is survived by siblings Isabel Hunter of Ingleside, Rita (Jack) Meunier of Ottawa, Patricia (Reg) Hutt of Chesterville and Gail VanGessel of Chesterville, by her sisters-in-law Dorothy Paul of Chesterville, Muriel McLean of Morrisburg, Betty (Donnie) Casselman of Cornwall and by her brother-in-law Reggie (Linda) Veley of Morrisburg. 

She was predeceased by her husband Fred, her grandson Jason Hill, her parents Napoleon and Mildred Paul (nee Price), her sisters Irene Brodeur, Clara Barkley, Rose St. Pierre, Eileen Barkley and her brothers Sonny and Emmett Paul.  

Vonnie will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Tyler, Tracie, Whitney, Casey, Sierra and by her great-grandchildren Jeremy, Josh, MacKenzie, Brooklyn, Skylar, Emma and Bryce.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews.    

There was no visitation at the funeral home.  A private family graveside service will be held at Spruce Haven Cemetery, Brinston.  

Donations to Dundas County Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

A resident of Iroquois for the past 52 years, Ron Graham passed away suddenly at home on Friday, February 27, 2015. He was 79.

Ron was born in Billings, Ontario, on January 16, 1936, to his parents Roy and Jane Graham (nee Spratt). He grew up on a farm two miles west of South Mountain and attended the South Mountain continuation school. 

When he wasn’t attending school or working on the farm, Ron enjoyed swimming and fishing in the Nation River, playing hockey and dog sledding.  

While in high school Ron met Clara McShane and on June 4, 1960, they were married and moved from South Mountain to Prescott. They were blessed with the birth of two children, a son Bruce in 1962, and a daughter Sharon in 1964.  

Ron worked for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for 37 years. He dedicated his career to engineering and construction, and retired as the Head of Quality Assurance.  Following his retirement from the MTO, Ron went to work for several consulting firms and was still working until he passed away.

Ron was a devoted member of Iroquois United Church.

He enjoyed woodworking and having a cup of coffee and conversation with his friends.   

Ron is survived by his children Bruce and his wife Debbie of Sault Ste. Marie and Sharon and her husband John Westendorp of Kingston, his granddaughters Stephanie Graham (Steven Goldie), Rachelle Graham and Alexandria Westendorp and his loving companion Sue Whyte.  He was predeceased by his wife Clara.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews.  

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. 

Funeral service was held at Iroquois United Church on Wednesday, March 4th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Valerie Vande Wiele officiating.  Cremation followed.  

Pallbearers were Chris McShane, Barry McShane, Dale McDermott, Larry St. Pierre, Mike McQuaid and Steve Taylor.  Honorary pallbearers were Walter McShane, Ron Brown, Charles Farlinger, Bill MacDonald, Kent McDermidand Bill Lee.  

Spring interment of cremated remains will be at South Gower Cemetery.

A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Eva Colqhoun passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.  She was 79.

Eva was born in Williamsburg Township, on September 15, 1934, to her parents George and Lillian Colquhoun (nee Stillson). 

Eva was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend whose main focus in life was her family.  

She will be fondly remembered as a hard working lady who always had a smile on her face.   

Eva is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Gordon) Andrusiak of Ottawa and Debbie (Richard) Mackay-Smith of Kingston, and by her siblings Marion Johnston of Boucks Hill, Helen (Clair) Empey of Williamsburg, Edna (Lee) Barkley of R.R.# 2 Chesterville, Riley of R.R.# 2 Williamsburg and Dorothy Lapierre of Morrisburg.

Eva will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Michael (Claire), Matthew (Allie), Jennifer, Corey (Melissa), Leanne and great-grandchildren Ava, Olivia, Emma and Zoey. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.  

Eva was predeceased by her brother Sanford, his wife Jackie and her brothers-in-law Ferneley Johnston and George Lapierre.       

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 7th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Isabel Black officiating. 

Interment was at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.  

Pallbearers were Dale Casselman, Gary Barkley, Jim Crowder, Carl Lapierre, Doug French and Adam Barkley.
