Gerry Dickson

A lifetime resident of the Iroquois area, Eileen Baker passed away at the Wellington House Nursing Home in Prescott, on Saturday, February 16, 2013. She was 93.

The daughter of Mason and Winnifred Shaver (nee Workman), Eileen Beatrice was born September 1, 1919, at the family home west of Iroquois.

She grew up with her twin sister Ila and younger sister Vera. She attended elementary school a short distance from her home.

On September 11, 1942, she married Curtis Baker and together they raised six children Donna, Carolyn, Winston, Allan, Sandra and Diane.

Eileen worked many years at the Caldwell Linen Mill. She retired in 1984 as floor lady.

After retiring, Eileen enjoyed life on the farm, gardening, having family gatherings, and the many visits from family, especially her grandchildren. To Eileen, family meant everything.

As Eileen’s health began to fail, she took residence at the Wellington House in 2011.

Eileen is survived by her children Donna (Neville) Johnston of Carp, Carolyn (Wayne) Barkley of Iroquois, Winston (Bernie) of Iroquois, Allan of Iroquois, Sandra (Albert) Tatton of Brockville and Diane of St. Lazare, P.Q. 

Eileen will be fondly remembered by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by her husband Curtis, her grandson Steven Payne, her son-in-law Pierre Drolet, her daughter-in-law Heather Baker and her sisters Ila Abrams and Vera McInnis.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 19th at 2 p.m., with Rev. Tracey Smith officiating.

Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Maitland. Pallbearers were Wesley Baker, Carrie Gilmour, Dale Gilmour, Chris Drolet, Ryan Held, and Kendra Held.

The family extends their utmost appreciation to David Lapier and staff of the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home for their compassion, kindness and professional guidance for the funeral arrangements.

A former Morrisburg resident and police officer Klaas “Joe” Schutte died peacefully in New Zealand Hospital on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. He was 77.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Willemina and grandson Robert. He leaves behind his five children: Janie and (John), Joey, Patricia (Andrew), Margie and (John), Jerry (Elizabeth). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. All are from Christchurch, New Zealand.  

Joe is survived by two sisters, Alice Daw (Erich Dumm) and Helen (Dave) Zewuster of Brockville, a brother, Jerry Schutte (Kay) in Cornwall, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada.

A resident of Morrisburg for the past 20 years, June Desjardins (nee Paupst) passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, October 25, 2012. She was 65.

June was born in Cornwall, on June 4, 1947, to her parents William and Kathleen Paupst.

She enjoyed knitting, visiting with family and friends and spending time outdoors with her dog King.  She will be missed by many people. 

June was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone with no questions. She did so many things with and for her family.  She is gone but never forgotten.  

June is survived by her husband Omer Desjardins and her children Richard (Cora) Whitford of Cornwall and Tammy Sue Marsolais (Mike Weathers) of Morrisburg.

She was dear sister to Cecil Paupst and Clayton Paupst, both of Cornwall and Carol Tyo of Riviere Beaudette.  

June will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Geana, Chrissy, Sara, Sandra, Melissa, Kenny, Michael, Steven, Joey, Jennifer, Randy and by great-grandchildren Owen, Cole, Chase, Rylee, Sabrina, Nathanial, Haylie, Jacob, Brooklyn, Abby, Gavin, Samantha and Austin. 

She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

June was predeceased by her son Randy  Whitford, her parents William and Kathleen Paupst, her sister Ida Jesmer and her brothers John, George and Dougie Paupst.    

Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Monday, October 29th at 12 p.m., with Father Chisholm officiating. 

Interment followed at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Avonmore.  Pallbearers were  Kenny Dillabough Steven Marsolais, Joey Marsolais, Michael Weathers, Victor  Stevenson and Gordon St. Louis.
