Peacefully in Ottawa, with the love of his life close by, Sidney Morrell passed away on February 25, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in St. Stephen, NB, one would be hard pressed to find a kinder soul, a more caring and thoughtful educator, or a more beloved husband and father. Lumberjack, miner, geologist, teacher, curler and coach, Sid contributed to the richness of our shared community. Sid will be missed by his dear wife Joan, his two sons and sources of enormous pride Daryl (Christena) and Edward, his treasured grandson Sidney, as well as his dear sister Mary, and siblings-in-law Ted, Marian and Theo. He will also be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A good neighbour, devoted member of the United Church, and dedicated volunteer in his community, Sid spoke with quiet satisfaction about his life of more than 90 years, including the pride he felt for the thousands of students he taught at Seaway District High school in Iroquois, ON. Sid’s family would like to thank the staff at the Carlingwood Retirement Residence and the many wonderful healthcare staff at the Ottawa Civic and Ottawa General Hospitals.
