MORRISBURG – Sunday, December 1, 2019, will be an afternoon to enjoy the full majesty and beauty of the Christmas season. The renowned adult chamber orchestra, Sinfonia de L’Ouest is coming to Morrisburg, for one concert only, to present A Classical Christmas.
Under the direction of Maestro Stewart Grant, long time artistic director of the West Island Youth Symphony, the Orchestra will perform a full program of some of the greatest of Christmas music both instrumental and choral.
Joining the musicians will be noted Montreal soprano Kerry-Anne Kutz and the 20 voice Lakeshore Community Choir.
Following the incredible success of past concerts which featured the West Island Youth Symphony, and played to packed houses at St. James Anglican Church in Morrisburg, organizers were unquestionably thrilled to welcome another extraordinary orchestra to this community.
Isabelle Delage is one of those responsible for bringing these musical artists to South Dundas. She worked alongside artistic director Stewart Grant for a number of years when he directed the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra.
“I am delighted that he is bringing his new ensemble to Morrisburg,” Delage said. “This is a highly-skilled, professional orchestra and people can expect a high quality performance.”
Delage toured with soprano Kerry-Anne Kutz, when they were with the Youth Orchestra in Europe.
“Kerry-Anne is a gifted and much-loved Montreal talent. I look forward to hearing her in the wonderful acoustic environment of St. James Sanctuary.”
The program for the special Morrisburg concert, entitled A Classical Christmas, will include Corelli’s Christmas Concerto and selections from Handel’s Messiah. Kerry-Anne Kutz will perform Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate and He Shall Feed His Flock from the Messiah.
Last year, in a kind of “flash mob” event, several members of the South Dundas community, including voices from the Seaway Valley Singers, delighted the surprized audience by singing The Hallelujah Chorus with the Youth Orchestra.
This year, in what we can now describe as a new “tradition”, voices from the Singers and people from the community will again reprise the Hallelujah Chorus, this time joining the Lakeshore Community Choir. The audience will hear 70 voices united in one of the most joyous songs of the season.
Sunday’s concert will conclude with an audience sing-along of some of the best beloved Christmas carols.
This special concert is being presented in support of local fundraising initiatives, including Community Food Share.
