MORRISBURG – Walk, run, bike or rollerblade. People across Canada will be taking part in the 39th annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer research on September 15th, Morrisburg included.
The local Terry Fox Run will begin at 8 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Seaway Branch #48 in Morrisburg. Organizer Scott Robinson told The Leader that since the local run began in 1994, over $125,000 has been raised in the community.
Participants in this year will start at the Legion and run through the Morrisburg Waterfront Park, continuing along Lakeshore Drive towards Loyalist Park. Markers will be set out at the 2.5 and 5 kilometre halfway points.
The Terry Fox Run for Cancer research began in 1981. Terry Fox captured the attention of Canadians as he attempted his Marathon of Hope across Canada, hoping to raise $1 from every person in Canada. Fox was forced to stop his run in Thunder Bay, 3,339 miles and 143 days after starting in Newfoundland.
As of 2018, more than $750-million has been raised by Terry Fox Run events.
