WINCHESTER – The Williamsburg Jr. Pioneers improved on their summer league record with their 8-5 win over the Mississippi Whitecaps on July 14th, in Winchester.
Williamsburg walked in four runners in the top of the first inning, building a 4-0 lead on Mississippi, and added two runs in the second inning.
Mississippi answered back in the bottom of the second inning scoring five runs. Pioneers led the Whitecaps 6-5.
Two more runs were added in the top of the fifth inning by the Pioneers, with Nick Guy and Mason Hummel crossing the plate. Cam Shaver had a pair of RBI’s for the game.
Guy made short work of the Whitecaps batting order from the pitcher’s mound, striking out five batters and allowing only two hits in three-and-a-half innings. The infield took care of a trio of hits to first base in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the win. Nate Thompson had a pair of K’s in the opening inning of the game.
The Jr. Pioneers have a record of one win, one tie, and zero losses so far in the 12 game summer season.
Up next, the Pioneers head to Kanata to take on the Blue Cubs on July 19th.
