Atom B Lions double Bears on the road

SMITHS FALLS – The South Dundas Lions continued their fight to regain the top spot in the Atom B House league, taking on the Smiths Falls Bears January 15th.

The teams were scoreless through the first period. A play by Jordan Elliott and Brody Duncan set up Chase Alger’s power-play goal with a minute left in the second period. The Lions led the Bears 1-0.

Four minutes into the third period, Alger set up Connor McCurdy’s goal to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, the Bears got one back when Cohen Rogers scored on Lions goalie Owen Conlin. The Lions’ defence shut down the Bears’ offence and held on for the 2-1 victory.

The Lions are just two points behind the first place Kemptville Panthers B1 team, with a game in hand.

South Dundas has clinched at least a third place finish in the regular season, and continues their fight for first place and home ice advantage during the playoffs on January 24th.

They take on the South Grenville Rangers at the Morrisburg Arena on the 24th, followed by the Brockville Braves on January 26th.
