CARDINAL – The South Grenville Rangers won back-to-back games over the weekend, defeating the Metcalfe Jets and the West Carleton Inferno.
The Rangers took on the Jets at the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal November 10th, beating them 5-2. Cameron Dillon put the Rangers up 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Rangers built on the lead in the second period. Braydon Forestell, Brody Ranger and John Mahoney each added a goal before the Jets got on the score board. South Grenville led Metcalfe 4-1 going into the third period.
Both teams added a goal each in the third period, Rangers captain Carson Pickup scored with 8:03 remaining in the game. Goalie Lee Spurgeon picked up his first assist of the season for the Rangers: that assist was on Forestell’s goal in the second period.
South Grenville then travelled to Carp to take on the Inferno November 11th, resulting in a 9-0 shut out win for the Rangers.
Newcomer Michael Plazek scored a hat trick, and Jordan Dodge scored twice, while Logan Baynham, Pickup, Hayden Sayeau, and Zach Hotte had a goal each for the Rangers.
Spurgeon improved to a record of six wins and three losses between the pipes for the Rangers, with a 3.13 goals-against-average.
South Grenville continues to hold on to top spot in the National Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division with 17 points (8-3-1). Hot on their heels are the North Dundas Rockets, also with 17 points.
The Rangers and Rockets duke it out for first place in the west November 17th at the Chesterville Arena.
