Iroquois campers are unhappy with 2018 rate increase

SOUTH DUNDAS – Seasonal campers at the Iroquois Campground are returning to find what they are calling a shocking increase to their campsite rental expenses.

During budget deliberations in February, South Dundas council approved a staff recommendation to increase fees at the South Dundas’ only municipally owned campground.

They approved a daily rate increase of 2 per cent.

Also with that approval came a change in the calculation formula for monthly rates and the elimination of a seasonal camping rate.

With the calculation changes and the increase, that effectively amounts to a 53 per cent monthly increase in cost for those who were previously seasonal campers.

The 2018 monthly rate for a 30 amp site is $508.

The cost increase has some campers looking to find accommodations at other campsites, and others deciding to get out of camping all together.
