MORRISBURG – Anna Henderson had three points and Martina Lewis two points as the Seaway Spartans girls hockey team picked up its first win of the season against the Char-Lan Crusaders.
Four minutes into the first period, Henderson’s breakaway put the Spartans up 1-0. Less than 12 minutes later another breakaway for Henderson put the Spartans up 2-0.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first period, Lewis set up Sarah Backes to make it 3-0 Spartans.
The Spartans continued to push past the Crusaders’ defence in the second period but could not get the puck past Crusaders goalie Ella Pasco until the final seconds of the game. Only 15 seconds remained in the game when Lewis scored, set up by Henderson. The Spartans secured the shut out win over the Crusaders 4-0.
Seaway goalie Michaela Mustard backstopped the Spartans’ in her first game of the season.
