Captain William “George” Andrew Barrey

WWII Veteran

Peacefully at the Perley-Rideau Veterans Health Care Centre in Ottawa on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, George Barrey in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Audrey Irene Barrey (nee Hennigan) for 64 years. Loving father of Colleen Weedmark (Jack) of Hallville, Patrice Johnson (Wayne) of Ridgeville, Jennine McCourt (Pat) of Williamsburg, Shawn Mason (Bill) of North Vancouver, Karen Barrey (Kim Warner) of Ottawa and Angela Barrey (Wayne Ens) of Lagoon City. George will be fondly remembered by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his sister-in-law Colleen MacDonald of Cape Breton and their families. Predeceased by an infant daughter, his granddaughter Kathleen McCourt and his brothers Wilfred and Leo Barrey. George served in Canadian Armed Forces 1942-72 deployed to Australia on a secret mission to use radar and intercept information etc.

Funeral Arrangements

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Morrisburg, on Tuesday, December 5th at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Morrisburg, all welcome. Interment of cremated remains will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Dunnville at a later date. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion would be gratefully acknowledged by the family or charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at
