Upper Canada Creamery soon unveiling new product

IROQUOIS – The Biemond family, owners and operators of Upper Canada Creamery, are continuing to develop new products at their area business.

Already known for its yogurt, the company is in the final test trials for commercial cheese. Projections are that the new cheese should be ready around Christmas time.

“Actually, the Creamery was originally planned as a cheese factory,” explained Jen Biemond. “But at the time, we switched mid-build to yogurt, a product which we could develop and sell almost immediately. The long term plan, however, was always to create cheese.”

Recently an extended family member offered the financial support the Biemonds needed to set up cheese production “sooner than we’d thought.”

Product testing is underway at the Creamery.

This will be a “true family cheese” as well, Jen explained.

“Our original cheese recipe comes from Maria Biemond, who has been creating cheese enjoyed by her family for over 20 years. Now we are going to be able to share that cheese with the community.”

Not unsurprisingly, the official name chosen for the new product is Biemond Family Cheese.

The cheese will be marketed in Iroquois, Morrisburg, Kemptville and Winchester initially, with plans to expand the markets some time down the road.

“Local people have helped us in our business, supported us and trusted us, and we are really pleased to add Biemond Family Cheese to our yogurt line.”

Because different cheeses require different aging times, initially the Creamery expects to offer its fresh and mild plain cheeses by December. Later on, in the new year, medium cheese should become available.

“We are looking at flavours of cheeses in the future as well,” Jen said.

The date of the official launch of Biemond Family Cheese at Upper Canada Creamery will be announced soon.
