Neil Robertson

A resident of Morrisburg for the past 34 years, Neil Robertson passed away at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, October 28, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones.  He was 76.

Born in Cornwall in 1941, Neil spent his formative years working with his nine brothers and sisters on their family farm in Summerstown and running his families’ sugar bush.

He joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 18 years old. During his service he did tours in Egypt and Cypress as a peace keeper. He was honoured with the Peace Keeping Medal which was presented to him by Queen Elizabeth.

He met and married his beautiful wife June in 1964. They went on to have five wonderful children and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary just weeks ago.

Neil, June and family moved around Canada with the army before deciding to leave the service after 25 years and settle back in Morrisburg near his father in Iroquois. Neil was honoured to work for the Corps of Commissionaires for many years at Upper Canada Village, Nestles in Chesterville and OETIO.

He donated his time to the Morrisburg Royal Canadian Legion Branch 48 as membership chairman and vice president, as well as many local charities in the area, none more important to him than the Terry Fox Foundation.

He loved to spend time with his family and friends, drink some beer, and smoke his beloved cigarettes. He was always available to help with anything anyone needed. He was loved by anyone who knew him and his family is honoured to have had him in their lives.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Neil is survived by his wife June Robertson (nee Banman), his children Mike of Sudbury, Shelley Robertson (Jamie Whitteker) of Pidgeon Island Road, Joanna Robertson of Ottawa and Julie Robertson of Ajax, his siblings Richard (Julie) of Woodlawn, Carol Robertson of Ottawa, Gerry of Morrisburg, Bill of Ontario, Hugh of Kanata, June West and Kathy Robertson, both of 100 Mile House, B.C.   He was predeceased by his son Ben, his parents Bill and Irene Robertson (nee Warring) and his sisters Susan and Beatrice Robertson.  He is also survived by his grandsons, Joey and Jake, his granddaughter Stephanie and his great grandson William and many nieces and nephews.  Friends may call at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg, on Thursday, November 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Legion Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m.  A time to share memories of Neil will take place at 8 p.m. There will be no formal funeral service.
